View Full Version : Hot side too hot?

The hot side of my tank has a UTH set on a RheoStat. It is set on the absolute lowest setting possible w/o turning it off. The UTH only covers part of the hot side and has a hide directly on top of it (half log). The temp directly on top of the UTH (substrate lizard liner carpet on top) never gets below 94/95 degrees - even at night. During the day it sometimes goes as high as 100. Is this too hot? Do I need to make some changes? I use a digital thermometer/hygrometer and have double checked it with a tempgun.

Temps on the cool side are about 75/75 at night and 80-85 during the day.

Thanks

Balls need 90-95 during the day and and at night the cool side can go down to 75. If the tank is too hot try putting it up on blocks so it's a few centimeters up off the ground so that air can flow under the tank and let some of the extra heat out. That should help bring the temps down. Even if you did stick the heat pad to the glass which I hope you didn't you should still see a difference.
Cheers,
Trevor

I wasn't supposed to stick the UTH to the tank? That's what I did. Even though the tank is on a stand, the stand is open beneath the tank so the tank really is off the ground (about 28 inches).

How should I have put the UTH on?

Thanks!
