Ok guys, for about a week my Mexican Black King's eyes have been all baby blue and I was very much looking forward to his first shed with me. I went out and came home this morning to find that his eyes were back to normal, he didn't shed and I found the biggest mutant poop from hell in his cage. I'm not used to kingsnakes and would like to know if this is normal or ok.

I feed him two adult mice a week. He was soaking alot during his blue eyes faze, but as I said, didn't shed and his eyes aren't blue anymore.

THIS is the mutant poop from hell:

It is all good keep your humitity up for the next 3 days and you should get a perfect shed alot of my snakes go fecal crazzy B4 they shed also I am not sure But I can take a stab in the dark and say that after they deficat it alows more give in the lower end of there body you must have seen how swolan it can get right B4 they let go well after they are done it is a bit more loose around the edges. Like I said I am not sure of the exat reason why it hapends like that but it is a edumacated guess

IMO your snake should shed in the next few days, as the eye caps clear up a few days prior.

The poop and urates look normal to me.

I am courious as to why Mice rather than rats?

Cheers

BRIAN: Simple, the stupid pet store won't order f/t young rats because in their opinion it's just easier to tell a person to feed their snake two mice. So, until I get the money to order a nice bulk package of rats from PCPC, I'm stuck with mice, which is ok because Montey my Spotted eats one mouse a week anyways.

Yeah looks totally normal.

My Mexican Black is one of my only snakes who is a religious soaker at shed time. He will spend days in the water dish.

Nice poop! I cleaned about 50 piles that big yesterday. Your snake will shed soon don't worry. They go back to that normal look for a few days prior just so first time owners will come on forums & ask questions. LOL Mark
P.S. Hows about a pick of the snake rather than its poop!

Jenn, You should really make an effort to get that mexi onto medium rats. The mice will sustain him but if you really want some growth and more nutritional value. Get rats. You are not that far from Ottawa. There are lots of peeps there that can help you out and if you cannot find someone, I can direct you to someone. Most ppl here that raise numerous colubrids will agree that when you switch a snake to rats from mice, the growth rate shoots through the roof. I rescued a male tang honduran last year. She was feeding him 2 adult mice per week. He was so underfed and malnurished that he was sickly looking. I immediately moved him to 1 medium rat 5-6 days and he started gaining 100-150 grams per month. I also give him 2 med rats every 3rd week. 2 mice a week are not enough i'm afraid. The poop looks perfect to me. A little trick is to give him a water dish with a lid with a hole cut in the center of it just big enough for the snake to fit into. Most times, he may poop in his water dish which makes it really easy to clean. Don't be put off if his poop is in a different place than his pee (white stuff). They may not excrete this at the same time everytime so don't worry if you see this.

It's actually alot more messy than smelly. If you are using a rack system, the tell tale sign of a poop for me is the visible rise of humidity on the walls of the tub. Using an aspen substrate makes the cleaning really easy. Personally, i think it is easier than news print. The aspen soaks up the excretion and it is only required to grab the surrounding aspen as well as the poop in a scoop and through in another handfull to replace it. Most times i have no need to even disturb the snake.
