What's a golfer snake?

Anyway, I've been bitten twice by baby IJs, once by an adult IJ (feeding mistake) and once by a 4ft boa that didn't like the way she was being handled. None of them hurt, really.

I've been bitten by a 3 foot corn, right in between my left index and middle finger, this was actually a feeding mistake. The funniest bites have been from a 5 week old leo (my blizzard het) and a juvi mexican milk. I say they were funny because animals that small acting tough make me giggle - all they succeeded in doing was bumping against my hand, they couldn't even bite. I did however finish what I had to do quickly and leave them alone to calm down and get over the stress.

I've been bitten a bunch of times all over my hands and arms by snakes. The worst one was when I was taunting a WC garter snake I was keeping with a goldfish. The snake missed the fish and took my index finger to about the first knuckle. I was young and kinda shocked so I sort of shook my hand then flicked him on the head. I relaxed after a minute, laughed at myself and then removed the snake. A friend of mine almost lost a finger to his adult iguana but it didn't seem to bother him much for a guy that can't tolerate any snake being out of it's cage in the same room he's in.

I've been bitten by my 4' California King, right on the middle finger. He bit HARD, so it bled pretty good. I've also received superficial tags from one of the blue beauties and a baby kenyan... which was a joke. :D

Do you mean today? LOL I breed Cal-Kings for starters. I'll show people what it feels like so they won't be afraid when they are considering purchase of a neonate. As far as the adults go I freehand them & will hang on to the specimen with one hand & clean with the other. This can lead to several tags as they sometimes have a feeding response from the scents of the other snakes. I have one that is a cannibal afterall heh heh. I got bit like 3 times the other day by a baby Jungle Carpet Python while handling him. He wasn't being mean, he was just hungry & kept opening his mouth on my arm & then releasing. I must have tasted good that day because a yearling male Childrens Python thought about eating me also, wrapping tight around my fingers while starting to "nose" my arm. Mind you that one usually thinks he is a "Scrub" not a Childrens LOL I have lots of snakes that will bite you in an instant if you're not carefull, usually nothing serious. Ask "Invictus" & "Red Dragon" how pleasant "Yolk" my L.Texas Rat can be when disturbed. Stands on his tail & throws open mouth strikes, as does my "Screamer" yearling JCP female from Ryan & Sheila (you forgot to mention that eh guys, LOL) she is from the "Chandler Cannibal Line" afterall though LOL. The Cal-kings will get me good by surprise every now & then though. The last time I got a eally good one everyone was so amused we took pictures LOL. My very first snake ever to boot! I guess thats why his name is "Schizo" LOL blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda

I have yet to get tagged but my daughter(6) just got tagged on thursday. She had a 4mth old JCP in one hand and went to scratch an itch with the other. Hehe sudden movement, when she brought her hand back down past the little guy TAG! She took it like a trooper didnt freak. She did go a little flush for a second but she will pay more attention next time:)

I've been bitten by so many things, you can't even imagine...My worst bite was by my female burmese python when she was 8 feet long. I opened the cage halfway and stuck my hand in there, but she mistakened my hand as food and bit me then wrapped around my whole arm. The only way I could get her off was spraying a nearby bottle of windex in her mouth. I kinda felt bad about the windex but she let go instantly. It hurt like a m.f'er and my hand was shaking like crazy afterwards. That make me put a whole lotta respect on her, and now I keep a bottle of rubbing alchohol by her cage just incase.

Well I have ben biten from a few animals.

I cary all of them as badges of experiance and lessons learned the hard way.

I have ben biten and whiped buy countles Iguanas biten buy corns, kings, rat snakes for no perticulare reason or for feeding mistakes a bit of both. a few ball pythons got the best of me countles baby burms got ther teeth in me.

The most remeberd bites that I have recived were:

#1) A 3 foot water monitor that need to be given his wormer medicine well when I caught it, it caught me needles to say I did not need to pry the mouth open in any way shape or form. I hurt prety bad. you see you are not the one that takes that monitor off it lets you go when it feals safe to to so and some times they don't let go till they give you some nice and hard chopms to see you on youe way. It was blue and swolen for a week.

#2) A 4 foot green anaconda got the best of me on cleaning day. this was hen I did not know how to use a hook verry well so I did not use them at all needles to say this Anaconda was a verry good teacher and Now I can use a hook with resonable acuarsy.

#3) A 6 foot dumerils Boa they can pack a punch even if it don't look like they can. it was a feeding mistake a Verry Bad mistake
there was 2 in the same cage and I was suposed to seperat them B4 feeding well I forgot that day and I prepared the food and I had all ready started to feed in the room so I desided I wold distract one buy feeding it so That could remove the other with out worring about the other cause it would be feeding. well needles to say that did not work out as pland and I got hit on my right hand buy the one I was trying to feed to distract. I t was almost a hospital job.

#4) A 8 foot boa (BCI) did not like that fact that I was coming to take her water so she let me know. LOL no I think it hapend because I may have moved to fast in front of her face well I did not know where her face was I saw a buldge under the news paper but did not know where the face was facing well I learnd faster then I thaught I and I did not have to move the paper what do ya know lol. it was a defencive bit so it happend so fast I did not have time to feal pain but the blood spoke for it self I was bleeding for about a hour on and off basicly if I took the bresure off it bled but it stoped not to long after an hour and I could count the teeth marks man you can realy fit a bunch of teeth in a Boas mouth...lol.

#5) I was hit realy hard one day while I was puting water dishes back It was a 9 foot burm. I did not wash my hands properly and when I put the water bowl back he smeled food and reacted well now I had a 9 foot burm atached t me and could not move it in to much shock to realise the animal was starting to constrict my uperbody ibcludidng my chest and neck area it was more or less perched there but I knew it was a mater of time that as soon as I would start to fight back to remove it, it would start to contstrict it was anchord in it's cage on a branch so I could not realy move the more I moved the more I felt the squese I knew If I paniked it was gona hurt and not Maby. I looked for the bleach bottel and could not see it and then I took it apon my self to try and suprise the animal hoping that if it realised that it bit of more then it could chew it would let go. with that thaught I to my left hand and hooked it right in the ribs and prayed it would be enugh beacaus I knew if it wasent the after effects were could go realy wrong.
The snake let go and I went to the emergensy room to get checked no stitch were needed a few puncture wounds are still kicking around on my hand but that dosen't bother me.

All in all I had a rough rode to get where I am today but I took every bit with the message and teachings that the animal gave me and now I still get biten but nothing like what is was 4 years ago not even as bad as 2 years ago. Along with all thows I was biten buy a bunch of baby crocodilians and a few difrent geckos and such.

I got hit by a 9ft burm I used to have a few years ago. It was my own fault though. I gave him a rabbit. I forgot to wash my hands and when I went to change his water bowl he got me across the knuckles. It was something I won't forget. I also got tagged on the elbow by a 13ft retic 10 years ago. That one was by far the worse of the two.

I get nipped every once in a while by my nile but not really hard bites. He has calmed down big time. Two bites in all the years I've been keeping reptiles isn't too bad I guess.

i think iggy tale whips hurt like mad!! especially with iggies with serious attitude problems!
Dude at work got bitten by that same iggy and it shredded his hand to bits, he had to have surgery to repare his.. um.. hand..
sounds nasty!
bitten by small snakes loads, corns and kings, boas, a few beardies and a plated lizard who likes to clamp on!
ive had extremely close calls with the HUGE snakes like anacondas, boas and two very bitchy burms!
ooh and another VERY close encounter with a rather large snapping turtle...
so far ive been quite lucky!

Well,

We have a nice collection here.

We have been bitten by our corns, kings, anacondas (Greens and Yellows) burms, retics, balls, Boas of all kinds. Also we have been bitten by some red tegus, Golden tegus, Mali uromastyx and Iguanas. We have gotten our share of monitor bites too. Savannah's, White throats and Argus monitors.the worst one we would have to be a 5 foot Asian water monitor gave les 6 stitches across his wrist.

Well you work with reptiles it sometimes happens.

well..I wish I had a cool bite story..but fortunately for me (knock on wood) I have never been bitten. Ive had snakes when I was younger..just WC Gaters and was lukcy back then too.

Now for the last two years ive been keeping my BCI (which is now 7ft), 3 ft ball python (tame as puppy) and my Hog Island boa which is still pretty young. He's about 6 months old.

I know its just a matter of time though( especially with the hog). The other day I went to take him out and he was pissed I bothered him i think. He hissed like crazy, I mean LOUUUUD and was striking like mad. I figured it would be best to leave him alone. This was the first time he ever did this in the 5 months that I have had him. The next day, I went to take him out and he was fine...no aggression at all.

Funny that I came across this thread, I got tagged by a BP last night. She is a fair size female (~2000 grams), I had her in one hand while I was straightening out her cage with the other and whammo! She was very aggressive when I got her, probably cause she had mites. She has tagged herself several times while I have been handling her but this time she didn't miss.

I've been bit by reptiles a few times. The worst bite was my friends 9 ft Retic that hit me twice before I could pull away. She really didn't want to be messed with but I insisted and she let me know it wasn't a good idea. It didn't even bleed till I started moving my hand- then it was a total mess. No stitches thankfully and since I didn't pull away when she hit me there wasn't any tearing so it was just a lot of 1/4 inch deep punctures, perforated. Oh, and the bruise was the worst part. My lovely female Brazilian Rainbow Boa got me a couple nights ago. I hate those long teeth! My Taiwan Beauty snake got me a few years ago in a stupid feeding mistake and broke a tooth off in my finger. The weird part was almost a year later when the tooth worked it's way out like a splinter. I've got some small snakes that bite every so often and that's almost cute. I have to be careful not to flinch for fear of hurting the little guys.
All in all, I've been bit by more mice and rats than snakes, and it's always the cute ones that I'm like "Awe, aren't you OWWW! bugger!" Frozen is definitely the way to go!
Live and learn- they bite and I just need to be more careful!

Got bit by my BP several years ago, feeding mistake.

Caught me on the 'webbing' between my thumb and index finger. I was reaching into her cage to pull out a mouse she didn't seem interested in. I guess it wasn't warm enough. ;) My hand however seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately I pulled away and she broke off a couple teeth in my hand. Poor little girl. I felt pretty stupid but aside from that one incident she's been good!

My list is fairly short...For now!lol.
-Leucistic Texas Rat snake got me on the hand at the store as I was deciding what to get next. That was the reason I got him.(strong feeder)
-Adult Leopard Gecko bit me on one of my left hand knuckles due to my mother intruding during a shed while I was holding him and tore a big piece of skin off really fast. The gecko was fine but I was bleeding for a few minutes.
-Many house geckos and anoles
-A juvenile mali uromastyx bit me on the thumb. He didn't cause any blood but my thumb was numb for a few minutes. They have some pretty strong jaws!
-My GTP has come very very close on numerous occasions and i'm nearly positive she'll tag me sooner or later!

I've had plenty of bites but a few of the more memorable ones starting with the first and worst of 'em was a bite to my right thumb by a 3 1/2 ft water monitor. That's the only one which left a permanent scar.
I was trying to retrieve her from behind a dresser and she latched on and held tight.
As anyone who's been bitten by a monitor knows they like to hold on,loosen up,get a better grip and repeat for about what seems like forever.
With the bite I got there was tooth to bone contact which was very painful and kinda disgusting because you could hear a faint grinding sound. It bled alot and then swelled up for a good while.
I've taken a couple good hits from a 5 1/2' retic,a 3' gator and a flurry of strikes from a really nasty ATB too.

To expand on this story, last week was a BAD week for fiesty reptiles for me. 3 days in a row, 3 attacks by 3 different reptiles. Tuesday, I get tagged by one of my beauty snakes, who left a tooth embedded in my knuckle. Day after that, the Argentine Tegu beats the crap out of me, so I get more scars all over me. Well, the very next day a 3 foot BCI damn near takes the end of my pinky finger off. I painted the walls on that one. :) it was a bad week.

My Taiwan Beauty snake also broke a tooth off in my finger. Took almost a year for the tooth to work it's way out.

Tis the season...
I was just cleaning cages and got bit for the 3rd time in a week and a half (BRB, adult African House snake and hatchling AHS). That's what get for saying AHS never bite! Couldn't believe a snake with a head 2 centimeters long could break the skin! Three drops of blood- incredible... Got to love those little guys that think they can take on the world.

This isn't about me getting bit but it's a rather funny story. Corey was at my house and we decided to get some old shed off of one of my gtp's, so we took her out and it lached on to his arm pretty fast, it held on for about a half hour to 45 minutes (we took the shed off while it was biting him) so the whole time Corey never flinched or anything, just didnt care I guess, anyways we eventually get it off of him and Im showing him some Helmeted gex I had purchased when it jumped out of my hand and landed on the floor, so Mr Woods quickly cupped his hand over it, well, it bit him, I never heard a guy scream like that before! sounded like a little school girl! lol, so the gtp bite never bothered him but this tiny little gecko made him scream, it was rather funny

LOL Joe... good story! ;)

I've been bit by geckos several times (mostly while attempting to give them medication that they really didn't want to take)... Most of them didn't hurt, but there was one girl who latched on pretty good and that one pinched like hell -- didn't break the skin though.

For snakes, so far only one bite, from my yearling irian jaya -- my gtp gets points for effort, but he hasn't quite got me yet... lol... same for my new little jungle carpet, she keeps on trying, but hasn't connected yet....

I really have to disagree with the bitey reptile comment, There are tonnes of species that do not bite out of aggression, they bite out of a mistake made by their owners usually in food response. Even with varanids, I havent noticed too many indivuduals that will turn their head to bite when being handled, most make good use of their claws and tails before resorting to their teeth.

Take Bearded Dragons, 1/100 will openly bite you, Frilleds little more nasty but I still havent been bit by one that tried to do it. Same with Green water d's, they just dont really TRY to bite you.

Don't get me wrong, I've recieved some nasty bites but I really can't say an animal went out of its way to bite me ya know? More or less just their food response getting the best of them.

Last but not least are the sceloprus and urosaurus bites, which for small lizard species actually gives a bit of a quick pain....little bastids. Otherwise, I fair off very lucky to what I could have been bit by through the years.

YES I have been bitten by most of my Boas and some of my bigger Pythons....all while feeding the brood too fast and not paying attention...although it has been about 6 months since the last nibble...had to stitch myself up once.......check my gallery for a JCP bite

V.hb,
Exactly. Almost all animals are capable of biting given a situation. I never said that all bites were out of agression ;)

I was only ever bitten once, and it was by my first sanke, Casper, an Albino Cal King. And it was totally my fault, trying to push her rock flush with the wall, and well used my middle finger to brush away some jungle carper blocking me. Needless to say the little "come hither" movement mny finger was makin gmust have been appetising cause he latched on good and fast! :D

I pull my hand out holding up my middle finger (hee hee) and called my now Ex, then Fiance into the room, and he FREAKED! finally got him off me with a butter knife, and my ex put him in a box (while wearing have garden gloves) and took him back to the shop.

I was devastated, all that and he was just hungry. When we brought him back the shop went to feed him (they put in a live mouse, I fed F/T) and he just swalloed that thing like nothing, he actually ate 2!

I wanted to take him back, but the Ex said no. so that was it for Casper. I miss him terribly, and it wasn't his fault.

My current BF is cool with my snakes, he actually picked out our second one, and neither one of us would return a snake for bitting so if it does happen again, well I won't have to worry about trying to get it off my by myself and hiding the wound
:D

I was bitten the other day by a Knight Anole I caught outside. I was surprised it drew blood!

He was cool though. =)

I just got bit last night and it was 110% my fault. got home after a long shift, it was late, and i hadnt slept well the night before.. I was cleaning out the rat cage, and without even thinking, i took out our adult male ball python to clean his enclosure, and i felt a pain in my wrist.. the snake had a good hold on my inner right wrist, punctured a few veins and proceded to constrict my hand for what I would guess to be about 30 seconds. he let go, i put him in a bag and washed off. the punctured veins made my wrist swell up nicely and now i've got a nice big bruise and a sore wrist.

a lesson definatly learned.

Where do I begin...I will just tell a few of my worst bites. I was bitten on the nose by a highly aggressive yellow ratsnake. I was bitten in the left cheek (buttocks) by a 6' BCI. My arms were shredded by a 5 or 6' Asian water moniter. My old 4.5' female coastal cal. king grabbed a hold of my index finger and would not let go for 2 hours or so. All of those were the most painful, I think there may be more but I can't remeber them. I used to get bit an awful lot but now the only things that bite me are my baby corns and kings. My ball tries sometimes but she has never connected, I think it is just more of a warning. A lot of my bites where my fault but some of the other animals were just volatile.
