Housing Boas.........question

This may sound like a stupid question, but can you keep 2 boas together in a 65 gal. Either same type or different types. I have a common boa and am looking to get a Brazilian Rainbow. I'm just wondering if its possible to house 2 juvenilles together for a short period of a few months. If it isn't, I can always get another inclosure now.....thx

you can do what ever you want but imo no you shouldnt as they both have there own needs
and requirements

It is never really a good idea to keep two snakes together because of stress and health issues. Transfer of illness or disease is also an issue. You should quarantine a new animal rather than risk the health of an animal you already have.

In this case it is absolutely wrong too keep them together.
They have very different housing requirements. BRBs require a humidity level that would be harmful to a common boa and visa versa.

If you don't have a suitable enclosure ready for a BRB...don't get the snake until you do.

If you need help with an enclosure, post some questions in the enclosure forum or in the Epicrates forum.

Yeah I know they have different requirements for temp and humidy. I was wondering if I could go inbetween, or that would be bad for both of em. It isn't a problem, I can get another enclosure.. Thanks!

So, I understand about different boas, but can you house 2 of the same type together? Or are they beter off by themselves?

It is always best to keep snakes separate. If you absolutely must house 2 boas together, only the same species. No, you cannot go "in between" with BRBs - they require high humidity at ALL times, NO exceptions.

they are better off by themselves. If you can't house two snakes in two different enclosures, then you shouldn't have two snakes! Housing two snakes together will create stress to one or both of the snakes. Even though they curl up with each other, that is only to retain body heat. Also, if one of them regurgitates or has a bad defecation, how will you know which one did it? I would defiantely NOT recommend housing two snakes together.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. Even though I am fairly new to the herp world, this was more of a general question since I really wasn't sure about it. By no means would I compromise the health of my snake or one that i might purchase. If I can't house it correctly I wouldn't buy it.......thx

Potential problems associated with housing multiple snakes (of the same species):
-fighting
-have to seperate for feeding
-you cannot monitor each snake individually (if one pukes how will you know who it came from?, etc)
-if one gets sick, the other will likely fall ill as well if it is contagious
-snakes can become stressed out by eachother because they are, for the most part, solitary animals, which can lead to a multitude of problems

Potential problems housing multiple snakes (of a different species, in addition to reasons above):
-they may have different requirements, which leads to one or the other, or even both, not having their basic needs met (this can lead to all sorts of medical problems)
-host specific bacteria (each animals has its own which can cause others to become ill, possibly fatally)

If u got 1 cage stick with 1 boa only then, only in breeding would I agree with 2 boas in same cage. Each animals has its own requirments and each has its own attitude. Down the road you will have more negative feed back than postive in placing 2 boas in same cage and not for breeding. Do more research and when ready get what you can handle not what is available and neat to get (fad).
