I hear ya Jeff I found myself in a similar situation last week so I did the same thing. I paired up two pairs actually the third is still eating like a hourse so I'll wait on her. She's still hugging the heat 24/7 too as where the other ones have been on the cold spot for a few weeks now.
Best of luck,
Trevor

Hey Jeff, Best of luck to ya. My IJCP havesn't shown any signs of wanting to breed & I plan on introducing them in November! It would be nice to get a early start!

Wrongo man. Introduce the male while the female's are eating for sure. I find that's the best time (sort of).

She hasn't started to cool herself though. Cool seeking behaviour indicates the begining of folidular development. If I introduce now they may copulate but she may not be far enough along in the folicular matturation process to give me the biggest possible clutch. She may not stop eating until after she ovulates so I don't think I should put too much stock in the fact that she is still eating anyway. When she starts sticking to the cold side that's when I'll look to pair her up.
Do you think that makes more sense then her eating habbits?
Cheers,
Trevor

Ha ha, Trev, don't over think it. They breed like mice man.

Oh yes they copulate like mice but are they as fertile? That is what hopefully I'll be finding out soon. Those two females are ovulating as I type this. I got pics of one but I don't have the cable to down load the pics onto the PC. I hope to have them up by the weekend.
Cheers,
Trevor

Seems REAL early for an ovulation, but its not unheard of.

And cool-seeking behaviour can mean a lot of things, not only folicular development. And again, not always that.

Dude, you are soooooo lucky there's an international border between us. Otherwise I'd assess you the showoff tax of one pair of pastels. :p

Ovulation can occure 6-30 days after copulation. For one female it's been 7 days for the other 8. It does seem early though so I'll be watching very closely after their next shed.

Oh believe you me Trev, I KNOW when it can happen. I've been breeding them since 1994. I meant that it seemed early in the season for them to be ovulation. Again, not impossible, just seemed early.

I'm not sure I follow? If they copulate early then they will ovulate early. Won't yours be ovulating any day now or at least with in the next couple of weeks?
Cheers,
Trevor

No. I normally see ovulations in January, with eggs being laid in March/April. I have only had an ovulation happen within 4 weeks of the first copulation 3 times (and that's a LOT of breedings, trust me).

Again, not imposible, just not the norm for me.

And I can get them to copulate in June, July, AND August. Doesn't mean they will ovulate in September.
