Hey guys...

I just got my 8' long 3' wide and 2.5'high tank..

It's made out of melamine(sp) plexi and tempered glass...

Right now it's just a bare tank...nothing is in it, and it's sitting on my floor...

I'm gonna do the substrate with cypress mulch, and am going to get plenty of hides/multiple water bowls...

I know what I'm gonna do about everything else in the tank, my only concern is the heating...

I can get the red lights no problem, but I hear belly heat is important..

so my question is, being that this tank sits on the floor, how am I supposed to get a heating pad underneath without burning the wood tank or the carpet???

even if I propped the tank up an inch the pad would still lay on the carpet all day...seems to me the overhead heat lamps are the way to go.

you could also use a radiant heat panel. in the long run they are far cheaper to operate.

Ive heard good things about http://www.pro-products.com/. you have to order directly from them.

"In order to determine the correct panel we need to know the size of the cage, what it is made out of, how much ventilation and where it is installed, what type of animal is in the enclosure and what the ambient and low temperatures are in the room where the cage is kept."

If you send them the above info they will tell you exactly what you need.

Your heat pads shouldn't get hot enough to burn the floor or the tank, wood spontaniously combusts at a fairly high temperature.
