cham eat dirst usually because they are lacking some form of nutrients in their diet and eat the dirt to get those nutrients. otehr chams just like the taste i suppose - lol

like dank7oo, somethings missing in the diet, you got a pic of your cham

I cover the exposed dirt on my plant pots with small stones, but inevitably there are small areas that are left uncovered. On rare occasions my chameleons will zap the dirt and eat it. I don't know why, maybe there are some trace elements that are missing from their diet, maybe they are just bored, but yes, they are very narrow, very formed holes.
can a sub adult lay eggs. he looks liek a male to me.
Yes, female chameleons can start producing eggs after about 6 months of age whether they have been mated or not. You can tell the sex of Veiled Chameleons from birth by the presence of something called the tarsal spur present on the back feet. The males have it, the females don't.
Here is a link for you that shows the difference: http://www.adcham.com/html/husbandry/glossary/tarsalspur.html
Hope this helps. Do you have a male or a female?
Cheers!
