I don't know if it is healthy as it looks.
My baby is way more active are all the temps set properly if it well fed they are real eating machines you know.
Yes Nile monitors are more nervous perioud they don't grow out of it if you are woundering.
Niles make good starter monitors they teach you how to respect them but they do not make good starter lizards they get biger then most ppl expect.
I feed mine every 2 days 1-2 pinky mice it was just up graded to 1 pinky rat plus he gets 20 crikets every 3 days so when he gets hungry he just needs to go hunting.
I would seriously re-evaluate the enclosure setings and so on but I have ben told that baby water monitors look like Niles so I would get a pic up just to double check what species it is. The reason I bring this up is that water monitors are way more lay back I am not sure if they are like that as babys but I do know that in time waters are better tempermented to bad for the Adult size I would have goten one of thows.
well I hope this give you a few things to consider.

I would suggest checking the temperatures.
if it eats, its probably fine. alot of my niles began like that and grew more confident with size. chances are its stressed while being handled. Ive noticed one of their defences is to play dead.
Eating is the key factor here, if hes holding food, and defecating normally I wouldnt worry to much, But make sure the temps are right.
You want an ambient of roughly 80 degrees, and a basking spot of about 120 for juvis.
Good luck.

thanks guys...i told him all about it and i helped him set up a tank!!
My nile was real subdued the first week I had him. His temps were fine and everything else looked good. Once he adjusted to his surroundings he was and still is to a point a terror. Once he is settled in he should go to a normal nile personality.
