UV lights... Should you use them????

I was just wondering I have a repti glo 2.0 daylight terrarium lamp 18" over my 10 gallon tank that I keep on for about 12hrs. I was just wondering if this is needed and what is the proper way to use it? The guy at the local petstore said it would make the coloring of the leo brighter and prettier, I just wanted to here what are your thought on this? I also am using a 60 watt zoo med blue bulb a few hours less than the repti glo because it gets to hot so I am going to switch to a red 40 watt bulb, Is a red bulb ok to use during the day?

Leos don't need UV lights since they are nocturnal. I've been using a red bulb 24/7 for 1 year now and I have never had problems with that.

I have never used UV tubes. Leo's don't need it. I use red bulbs on albino leo cages, and some others. I sometimes have used white bulbs on normal leo cages. I prefer the red bulbs, however, and I believe the leo's do also.

They are an expensive why to tell you gecko its time to sleep. They still need the d3 however.

I dont think its necessary at all imo. I have never used it on my 3 gex and they are all doin prefectly fine.

As stated, UV isn't necessary. It won't make your leos brighter and more colourful, they'll just LOOK brighter and more colourful to the human eye. If you want to use one it's your call - the light's not doing any harm anyways.

It's not necessary for leos to have an UVB bulb as others have mentioned but it shouldn't harm them either. I use a florescent fixture on my leo's cages along with 2 red bulbs. I use the florescent light to give them day/night time hours.

well you already have it so use it
UV is needed and not, they need the D3 from it so the calcium is
metabolized, I dont use them but it's a plus
they wont suffer if you wont use it and give the Calcium+D3 but
they will be better with it :)
