getting a milksnake

im getting a milksnake... im pretty sure bout getting a pueblan but im open to suggestions.... i want a milk with nice pattern..... i wanna know what the ultimate milksnake is as far as rarity and behaviour...thanks

Pueblans are great snakes but very nervous when young, they do turn around with regular handling.

Sinaloans are much more milder tempered and a great biginner milk.

As far as rare, if you find some micropholis (ecuadorian milks) or pure dixoni milks, then give me a call...

Then again, you have the ole mighty honduran with all those funky pattern and colors, did I mention I was partial to giant six foot hondos...

take a look at the andean(sp?) milks, big and calm. My pueblan(3yo) has never calmed and most of the smaller ones can be flighty. the mexican black milk is also cool, starts out as a tri color and then turns solid black

Most of the milks will be flighty when they are young. I agree with marc on the Sinalones though. My sinalones are very calm and they are just juvis. My pueblans are a little different. Most all pueblans will be jumpy and not want to be handled alot. My adult male pueblan still wishes to be left alone but my adult female loves to be handled. Hondurans, as marc mentioned, are a very good choice and availible to buy more often than most milks. They also are pretty calm most of the time. My other milks are a little harder to describe because they are mostly yearlings and I have not collected enough data on them yet to pass judgement but for the most part, make sure your new animal is from a good breeder as they will most always be there when things don't work out as planed. Our adult sinaloans are nervous as hell, but never bite and calm down once you have them out. But they are by far themost beautiful snakes in the world to look at... I love their BRIGHT reds. I'll have babies next year if you're interested. :)

I agree with the above and will say that most are skittish when young. Frequent attention and handling calm most down to a tolerable state. Most of my adults are as tame as any snake. Lately the sinaloans have kind of dropped from favor, but are still a favorite of mine. There are probably more "morphs" of the Honduran milk than any other, but they can be pricey. Rarer in the hobby, Jalisco milks are easy to work with. Another ssp. that was once very popular because of this is the mexicam milk (L.t. annulata). The very rare macropholis - Ecuadorian milk- will be added to my personal collection hopefully soon. Good luck with your decision and educate yourself on care of the ssp. before you make a purchase.
