My grandfather found this little guy at work (he works in the forestry dept. for the city of Tampa, FL). He's so tiny, I doubt he's had his first shed. He has a little cut on the underside of his belly, so I am going to keep him for a few days and treat it. Do you think I should wait until he sheds and then try to feed him, and then let him go? Or just treat the wound and let him go? I live right next to a canal, so I'm going to release him there. There are plenty of prey around here for him to eat, and we have loads of other corns around. Isn't he cute? :D

Hi Kristina,
What you have noticed on the underside of the snake is likely where the umbilicus was attached. A lot of people misidentify this as an injury when it is in fact akin to a navel and really nothing to worry about. Whether or not you want to keep the snake is your decision, but you do not need to treat this area.
Good luck,
Ryan

Sweet little guy, I'm glad you got a nice photo before you released him. I'm sure he'll be much happier getting lots of fresh air and exercise than he would be in a tank for the rest of his days. But I'm glad I got the chance to see him in a photo.
