Hey all

I have had my bp for 2 months now. she is 1 1/2 ft.
4 weeks ago i offered her a med. mouse and she took it, then the week after she took 2 med. mouse, then the week after that she only took 1 and the week after that se oly took 1 again, which was 2 days ago. When she took her first strike at ir (2 days ago) she missed it and bit my finger and i bleed but after that i offered it to her again and she took it.
She can get 2 med. mouse down her to the middle of her body in about 15min.
I want to try and get her onto rats how shall i so this? is she big enough? how many rats and what size???

Thanks

Alex

She seems like an eager feeder. Try with a rat pup, i beleive there the size equivalent(sp) to a adult mouse.
She should be able to take it no problem.

Good idea. Rats are much better than mice. A new born BP and eat a small rat. So, start out w/ a small rat 4 her. And if she seems like she can eat more. Maybe 2 small rats or 1 med rat. (If she has a "beer bottle lump" in her belly than thats the right size 4 her)

Try small rats, every 7-8 days, if there is a good sized lump (not necesarily (sp?) a beer bottle lump (as in the size of a beer bottle) then she is well fed, Try not to feed to many large prey items at once, find the right size and feed only 1 good sized prey item. But I'm sure there are people here that would say "feed her as much as she will eat"......do whatever feels right to you or talk to a herp vet.

Feed 1 adult mouse or equivelent size rat every 7 days. The item should be slightly larger than the thickest part of your snake's body. If you can get rats, go with rats. DEAD rats.

DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT attempt to feed your 2 month old Bp so that it has a 'beer bottle' lump in it. You will have a dead ball in no time. I would feed your ball every 5 days, a rat pup (20-30g). If she takes one, offer her another. Don't worry, if she's hungry she'll eat it, if she's full she won't. Just don't go for the 'beer bottle' lump until she is over 1000g's.

To answer your corn snake question, I have a big female corn snake, and she takes a small rat every 7 days. She's a big girl tho, but any snake that will eat rats should be given rats, appropriately sized, of course.

Rats seem to be more nutritious than rats, and everything I have takes rats ASAP. I would go ahead and switch them, long as they are fed the appropriate size rats.

Burm, in my experiences, rats are exactly as nutritious as rats. Haha.
