I have a male, approx 2' Ball Python. I just want to be sure. Where I live, I find it hard to find rats. I don't really have the space to get them in bulk. Anyhow, the place where I do get them only had pups and small adults. I took the small adults which are approx 5" from nose to butt. I just want to make sure that it isn't tooo big. It seems huge. I have fed a rather large adult mouse but not this size. What do you guys think. I guess that I could give it a go. He won't take it if it is too big right? Thanx in advance.

General rule of thumb is too feed something roughly same size or slightly larger than the largest part of the snakes girth. Doesn't matter how long the prey item, just how big around it is. If its a bit larger thats usually fine in most cases.

Thanx, I have read that a million times but it just looked soo big. I actually measured his girth at the thickest part with a pair of verneer calipers and the rats. The smaller ones were the exact same size 30-35mm. I don't know why I didn't think of doing that before. Ahhh, I feel releived, I just care about him and want to make sure that I am doing the right things, guess that I needed a lttle reasurence! Feeding day is on Tuesday, can't wait to give it to him!
