crested gecko cage

i plan on building a crested gecko enclosure and i was wondering if any of you had tips. i want a verticle transparant sort of cage that will hold humidity well all while being not too expensive.

I used melamine with a sliding glass door for mine but i'm not sure if you want some more viewing area other then the front. I'm not sure how skilled you are but if you want a clear tank I think some of your choices would be make a plexi tank, or buy an aquarium, clear rubbermaid. or something like a critter keeper.

you could use melamine with sliding glass front door like mark said but if you want more veiwing area you can cut holes in the melamime sides and add a peice of glass then you would have to put some type of trim around it

It all depends, are you planning to just keep a couple, if so go with something that will be attracting to the eye, if you are planning to keep a lot then go with a rack system.

i plan on keeping one.. i thought of an idea of turning a 10 gallon tank vertical and installing a door to the open side... i'd have to figure out ventalation and how to attach the door though.. i'm willing to put a lot of hours into thie project.

You can get clip in tops that are screened. you have 2 stationary clips on one side and a rotating clip on the other side. they stay in very well (we have 2).

Acrylic (if purchased from the right place) isn't horribly expensive, but still not quite cheap. It makes for an awesome display enclosure for arboreals, but isn't as simple to work with as wood. Another alternative, though not as much viewing room, is to go with wood and glass or plexi for a door or even for 3 sides. I hate melamine... it chips, its heavy, it isn't waterproof, if any moisture gets past the coating it falls apart, it bubbles, and it doesn't give you much choice as its commonly available in white, it can sometimes be ordered in black or brown at a mugh higher price. Some plywoods are very attractive. You can also choose to go with something like pine or a hardwood as well. Just be sure to provide a good finish if you choose to use this method.
