what kind should I use? anaog or digital, what name brand?

Use a digital one,they are easier to read. There are several on the market , and they usually come with a temperature readout as well.
The favourite of many is the silver units made by "Bionaire".They have a Minimum and Maximum storage as well which is quite nice so you can see the maximum swing in both temp and humidity.
These Bionaire units can be wall mounted or they will stand alone.
Get them at large Department stores, like Home Depot, if you have them, or any others that sell humidifiers. In Canada they sell for 35 dollars.
They should be a little over 20 bucks down your way.
