View Full Version : Where does a herper chic meet a herper guy?

It seems all the men I ever meet are soooo squeamish about lizards and snakes.
I thought it was supposed to be the girls that were afraid of them.

There should be a dating service/singles club just for Herpers!!

Herp-a-date? But I suggest leaving them at home for the date. Not to many restaurants would let you in! :D More guys at the reptile shows are afraid of tarantulas then girls. So much for macho  TB

well, I know that some things still give me the willies too...but...for the most part I'm open to learning to love new critters.
I have yet to meet a man that was willing to accept my scaley friends.
Or to even understand how I can love them! ....that's REALLY difficult to deal with.

maybe you can auction yourself off for a date @ the next herp show with the proceeds going to help one of the rescues... It shouldn't be hard to find a buyer for you...

icequeen

That just might be an idea! It would be highly unlikely that there would be a man there that doesn't LOVE herps...unless of course he's been dragged along by his herp loving wife....in which case, I wouldn't want him anyway.
I'd rather have a "fraidy man" than a married man any day.

Alot of people think that keeping reptiles as weird for some reason. Go figure. Your dating probs are not that unusual, icequeen. The only thing that I can offer by way of a solution is my phone number ;) lol

haha I am so up for the auctioning idea, it is SO HARD to find a reptile lover guy here...my last boyfriend was terrified of snakes. The one I'm potentially going to date now is ok with them, but doesn't really care. lol

This is SO true!!! Just coming back from the Totally Pets show and having been at the Arachnomania booth all the time helping out. I was really amazed to see that much more women were willing to overcome their fears and hold a tarantula. Both men and women didn't want to at first but the women came back to do it. The men didn't!!! I think it's hilarious! I would say out of all that handled a T, 2/3rds were female!

maybe you can auction yourself off for a date @ the next herp show with the proceeds going to help one of the rescues...

That's a really cool idea!!! Gives you the chance to have a date with someone who loves herps AND you get to do something to help out animals in need.

We find the same thing with snakes, Pixie- although there might be a slight edge in the numbers of women scared of them over men, women are much more likely to try to get past their fear and actually touch or hold one. The men either like them already or stand at the back and do nothing.

My previous boyfriend wouldn't even be in the same room when one of my lizards were out of thier cages.
"they're sooo nasty and slimey", "how can you call THAT a PET?".
It wears thin after awhile...especially when I'd love to have more.
He almost had a breakdown when I got my son a couple gerbils...wouldn't go into his room to look at them when my son wanted to show them off...and THEY have FUR...but ohmygod...they're RODENTS!

I'm always telling my daughter that girls are tougher, because we have OVARIES...men just have balls.

HOOORAY for ovaries!!!

ohhh..wait a minute, I should be careful...I might scare away any potential suiters (is that how it's spelled?) with all this talk about ovaries.

That's a great idea:) It was such a fluke that my current b/f was just starting to get into reps. He has a Cham, but was not that into snakes, just took a little work....convincing and showing him the cutest little Childerns, who couldn't fall in love with that??? It's been all up hill from there:)

since herps can be a real deal breaker in relationships maybe a herper dating service might be a nice addition. And as for talking, icequeen....any time at all ;)

Well to be all cute and sappy, Vanan and I met through "the other site". Found out we lived three blocks from each other. Met up when I went to buy a snake, and it's been snake love ever since.

last herper chick I dated left with 6 snakes I bought while we were living together. Too bad it was worth losing them, but no more confusion on ownership if I ever date another one lol.

See, there's something to be said for being a herpevangelist trying to convert the phobic into fanatics. Herp phobics never leave with any of your animals. ;)

I'd be happy to have a girlfriend who isn't JEALOUS of them. Mine just said again last night "You spend all your time in that f*$#ing room" The snake room that is, LOL. She's getting better over time & has her own Albino Leo now. She is always jealous of how much of my time my snakes take though. It's funny how she gets POed when I'm doing my work, but for her to go put in 40 hours a week is OK. At least when I'm working it's always at home & on my schedule. Women! Now I know why I love my snakes so much. They are always happy to be fed & cleaned up after, I always get my way (usually, LOL), they never talk back & I never have to worry about saying the wrong thing, LOL Mark I.

I need to find a herper chick in Peterborough that is around my age (20+) that is a challenge! Last girl I went out with (for 2 years) was into herps after she met me but luckily the only thing she took when she left me was her rat.

So any herper girls in Peterborough or surrounding area (or willing to commute lol) let me know. I will have to get a pic of my fine self soon lol.

While I admit it would be nice to share my hobby with the other half, I think its probably better this way. If we both had the same obsession it has the potential to spiral out of control... I guess it keeps balance having only one person in the relationship seriously involved in the hobby. Also nice to have something that you can call yours :)

I lucked out in that department fortunately. When Invictus came home with three corns snakes back in March, I was absolutely beaming. :) And, it's not just him that spends all the time in the snake room, it's me too...gotta love poop duty days and feeding days with larger collections...eh Mark? ;)
