View Full Version : Looooooong shed...
I've got a question for all you seasoned BP owners out there. One of my large female balls went 'blue' 15 days ago. She was blue for 12 days, normal for 2 and she finally shed today, in one beautiful piece, none the worse for wear, on the 15th day. This is, by far, the longest shed cycle I've ever seen. Anyone have any similar stories, or possibly an explanation.
Boids seem to have longer shed cycles, especially BPs. Mine are just like you say, 2 weeks altogether maybe a couple days more.
I would guess it's because they have a slower metabolism.
It's quite normal.

See, that's the thing, it's not that common with my snakes. I have 19 balls and on average, it takes them anywhere from 7-9 days for them to shed. This is the first time that one of my balls has ever taken more than 10 days to shed.

It is perfectly normal. I suppose you just do not notice with your other snakes.

Michael,
I've noticed that in the winter months adult balls take longer to shed for some reason......it must have something to do with the breeding season.........oh....and they also seem to take longer to shed when you have an upcomming reptile show or you have people comming over!

Corey, thanks, I thought there was something weird going on. The 'She' I'm talking about is my big burgundy. BTW, she's eaten every week since the show, since I took your advice on her finicky eating habits. She's up over 2800g now.
Gino; I pay VERY CLOSE attention to all of my snakes, including sheds, and this one was out of the ordinary.
