Season lighting?

Just wondering if anyone has a good way of knowing excacly when I should change the timers on the lighting to match the durations of the day light as the season change and days got longer or shorter...

I mainly judge by outside but .. thats Ontario daylight .. Is there a better way?

I've wondered that myself. I only breed snakes though, so I'm sure its no biggie. I have them on 14 hours on, 10 off during the feeding/breeding season (10 months). The other 2 (for brumation) I have them on 10 hours. Seems to work just fine.

Now for lizards, you got me man. Let me know if you come to any conclusions.

hmmm .. I am doing the painflull task of changing all my timers every couple of weeks .. is this nessecery? Ure way Jeff seems rather easy and if it works .. I might switch it to that ..

Mind spcecifying excact dates for the light changes .. do u do the change in one night or over a period of time .. Sorry lots of questions, but this has never really been discssed b4!

March 1st to November 15th is 14 hours a day on (10 off). December 1st to February 15th is 10 hours a day on (14 off). The 15 days in between each change is spent slowly changing the times (ie. 1/2 hour per day until the desired time is reached).

But don't copy me!! Ha ha. Or you'll have egg-bound Ball Pythons that are at day 50 after their pre-lay. Ha ha!

If there is a farmers almanaic for your area then pick it up. It will have approx sunrise and sunset time for your area.
