Flea question

Would fleas that are on cats affect reptiles?.. I know this maybe a dumb question ..but I thought I should ask ... the cat does not go into the reptile room ..but its not an air tight room either..any help would be great

That's funny you should ask that now. I just brought a new kitten home the other day and a friend of mine noticed he had fleas. I wondered the same thing but I haven't found any info yet about getting fleas off snakes but plenty about mites and ticks. This makes me think fleas don't infest snakes. I don't know for sure though. I certainly hope not. We've had mites on the snakes once and it was a giant pain in the *ss, as I'm sure many others know. I sure don't want to go through that again.

good, because I was going to ask the same question!! My cat has taken a liking to laying right next to my male bp's lamp, and the fleas sometimes fall off, especially since she has been flea bathed, and sprayed! Thats a relief!!!!!!

As everyone mentioned, fleas prefer a warm-blooded host. Most mites, and many other external parasites are host-specific. Ticks are the exception to this as they aren't very picky with whose blood they suck :flick:

Get that cat cleaned up and the house as well though. Not only are fleas a nuissance to the animals (and spread disease), but they have no problems going after people either! Spent a week at a friends place only to find out all his cats had become infested with fleas....and in turn those fleas went after me and the other humans in the apartment. Flea bites are NOT good times!:eek:

Yeah, you should take care of those fleas anyway. Our cat had fleas once, NEVER AGAIN! Little bastards were biting my legs at night! Shampoos and collars don't do squat. Go the the vet and get some real treatment, like the Advantage drops. This stuff works. A little pricey, but it's worth it.

Anyone know how old a cat needs to be to safely be treated for fleas? I have a just weened kitten and I've just been bathing him daily, brushing him a lot and picking the little bastards off with tweezers. A friend of mine, who's a lot more of a cat person than I am, told me doing that stuff would take care of it.

Don't forget to treat the rugs and bedding.
