OK...someone released this little guy into a Petsmart I used to work at, so I took him in.....I thought at first it was an anery cornsnake, but I've been told it is in fact a black ratsnake. Anyone know for sure what it is? I'm in Louisville, KY so both are native species here.

What does it's belly look like? Does it have that typical "corn" pattern?

See, lol.....I wouldn't know the difference. Its just checkered black & grey. Several people have told me its a black rat.
I don't know for sure,
but something tells me that it's a black rat more than a anery corn....maybe it's the eyes...don't konw...but I feel that it's a black rat......but I am not 100% sure on this...

I've confirmed it.....its a black ratsnake. Something to do with post-occular scales and the head pattern.

Black rats definitely do have checkered bellies.....I've already confirmed that this is a black rat snake. They are one of the most common snakes here in KY and several people have accurately id'd this animal......thanks for the input though!
