Ok Guys, I think I'm almost Ready, I need alot of OKs

Ok here I am, asking questions again. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me.

Ok Not my first python species, but kinda nervous about getting a new one.

I plan on getting my first Blood soon, maybe a week or two, or whenever my setup is fully opertational (which I bvelieve it is), but I need you guys to OK it for me.

Temps: Warm end: Basking (floor temp)>86-89 degrees (air temp)>87-88 degrees. (Cool End) 76-78 degrees (drops @ night).

Humidity (75-85%) I don't have humid hides, but I will tomorrow. I plan on getting two (one cool end and one warm end) and maintain them @ 100% humidity.

So far I have 3 Temporary hides (tight fitting) like everyone recommends. 2 on cool side 1 on warm side.

Newspaper substrate and crumpeled (sp?) Newspaper so he can borrow in. ( I wasn't to sure about this), let me know if its ok.

Nice sized water bowl (water temp)>80 degrees.

Heat Source: Heat tape, and ESU Reptile Thermostat, all been working for 3 days.

Digital Thermometer with Humidity censor Indoor and outdoor, so that I can get the warm side and cool side temps.

Cage size: 36x16x7 LxWxH I know, its big, but it will have plenty of hide spots for the little guy to feel safe. I think the crumpeled newspaper will also make him feel safe.

I used this size rack because it is easier to maintain the temps.

OK, Ready for the judging to begin. Let me know of any fixes I need.

Your setup sounds great! however , it just doesn't look so great :P

What i mean by that is,...
scrap all that newspaper. use a couple layers of paper towel, now scrap those hide boxes...go to the nearest dollar store and pic yourself up 4 little rubbermaid sandwich containers. you can choose whether or not you want clear or solid plastic. i prefer opaque so that the blood still feels secure and hidden but you can still see it. this should not run you more then 5 dollars.
Break out the power drill and sizzors!
drill ventilation in the tops and sides of the rubbermaid as well as cut the entrance hole in the side of the containers.

Then, perhaps you would like to get yourself a bag of spagnum moss, and fill each hide up with a little bit. keep two hides on the cool side, and two on the warm side. now, keep one hide on each side, damp (not soaked). keep the other two dry, and keep your water bowl in the middle. Assuming your temps are good, you now have a perfect set up for any blood.


one way to deal with a big rubbermaid and a small blood, is to not get such a small blood. try and find something already a few months old and feeding routinely.
If you can handle the cost of shipping, id go with pro exotics.
tell Robyn your situation and that you wouldn't mind something a few inches bigger and im sure he'll accomodate you nicely. :)

lol it all looks good. but the only problem i can see is the size of the cage, they get streesed VERY easy, but other than that i dont see anything wrong. are you getting a python curtus brongersmi? when any blood is a baby they do fine in a storage contaner with holes.

oh and by the way, dont let your temps fall too cool. 78 at most. :) but 80 is better!

Ok, I can make sure the temps don't go below 80. Is that on the cool side? How high can they go on the warm??

I was pretty iffy on all that newspaper (LOL) and the hides really suck (I know). I'll buy some more tomorrow.

There are plenty of ventilation holes in each side of the rubbermaid, but just enough for me to keep the overal humidity as high as 100% all the time in the container if I felt.

I will repost a pic later on to show you guys what it looks like later.
