Here are some photographs I took on a recent excursion to New York City, this city never sleeps (like me) - I loved it!
Enjoy!

The Old Flatiron Building (my favourite building in NYC).

A nice view from within Central Park.

A very pretty foot bridge.

Grand Central (I had to sneak into a velvet-rope enclosed area for this picture *gasp*).

http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/3145Girder.JPG
A fitting end to my homage to NYC; a crude crucifix constructed from twisted girders from the WTC at Ground Zero (picture was taken while briefly allowed within the fencing of Ground Zero).

I hope you enjoy my photos.

Dave,
The Flatiron building is considered to be New York's first and oldest "sky scraper." It was built in 1902 and was designed by Daniel H. Burnham. At 285 feet (87m) - 22 stories, it pales in comparison to a modern day sky scraper.
I thought this excerpt from this (http://www.glasssteelandstone.com/US/NY/NewYorkFlatiron.html) website was pretty cute:
"It is said that the building created unusual eddies in the wind which would cause women's skirts to fly around as they walked on 23rd street. This attracted throngs of young men who gathered to view the barelegged spectacle. Police would try to disperse these knots of heavy-breathers by calling to them, "23 Skidoo." This phrase has passed out of common usage, but its descendant, the word "scram" remains in a back corner of the American lexicon."
Cheers,
Ryan

Wow, I absolutely love those photos, especially the symbolic one of the cross at ground zero.

I like the flatiron building too, there's a similar building downtown toronto, don't know the name or history of it but it's right accross from union station.

RMBolton,

Thanks for the info, and the link. I've never been to NY, but my gf and I are thinking of honeymooning there.

I think that's a fantastic idea!
I would love to go again in the fall, the scenery would be stunning whilst the leaves are changing colour. A handsome-cab ride through the park would make for a memorable night for a honeymooning couple in NYC. Make sure to pick up The Lonely Planet guide to NYC, absolutely indispensible.
Cheers,
Ryan
