Let me just say that I am a new cult follower of Trevor's shed-removal technique. Everytime anyone posts about a snake with an incomplete shed, Trevor comes out in the midst of suggestions to soak the snake, spritz it, etc (this is what I have been suggesting, too). and persistently repeats his "fail-proof" method: put the snake in a rubbermaid with a damp towel, and the snake will take it off by the morning.
I'd never tried this, but sure enough, last night I noticed Huxley having some problems rubbing off his shed. I didn't have a sphagnum (sp?) moss hide or anything in there, and then I thought of Trevor's towel method. I wet a washcloth and put it in the corner of his tank. As soon as Huxley found it, he started rubbing on it, and soon had crawled completely inside the towel. He stayed in there for most of the next day.
Then, all of a sudden, he decided to crawl out at some random point this afternoon. His ENTIRE SHED had come off beautifully (in two big pieces), and he looked none the worse for the wear. In fact, I think he felt better being able to hide in the towel while he cleaned himself up, as opposed to scraping himself along his log or textured vine.
The towel method is fantastic. Cheers, Trevor. :D
