Not for purists - jungle corn pics

We had an adult male albino junglecorn that friends used for breeding this spring (he lives with them now) and we got two babies from that breeding. Both parents were junglecorns (cornsnake X california kingsnake) and the clutch was a mix of normal and albino.

Nor sure I want to raise the hybrid issue here but I think these are dramatic looking animals. I like to have one for educational purposes to show people what they are and I find the different morphs attractive as well as thinking that they differ enough from either parent species to remain distinct, thought there is some potential when they are crossed back to either parent line - they can become much more corn or king like in appearance.

Anyway, took a few shots last night and thought I would share. I picked these two for richness and color intensity - the group was quite diverse. I think the kingsnake influence is most pronounced in the head shape and the intensity of the yellow bands.

Wow, Mary! Those are really nice. That albino has such striking markings... even if you don't breed them, you're right they are very attractive.

I really like that normal jungle. Something about the contrast on that head.

I'm a purist, only in that, I only like 50/50 crosses. A jungle crossed back to either parent species, ends up looking like a corn or a king and really loses that "jungle" look.

Can't wait to cross my two back together in a few years time.

Well Mary when I saw how sweet your Albino girl was I had to put up a couple of pics of some of my Albino boys from this year. I have an Albino male JC & 2 100% het females (all orginally from CK X Corn breedings) that are my current breeding stock. Here's a pic of the nicest male from the first girl.

I have had a male cal king attempt to eat a female corn. You have to watch them to make sure nothing happens. Also, kings and corns don't just breed, sometimes they do, but a lot of times you have to coax them.

I'm working with Hybrids as my breeders so I don't have to worry (I hope LOL), but I have heard stories of the Kings trying to eat the Corns while breeding & anyone considering doing so should carefully monitor the situation. Mark I.

I'm going to be crossing an Albino Cali King with a Male Volcano corn in about two years time myself :).

Nice male junglecorns Mark - very high number of saddles - there is such diversity in these guys. I was really struck by that in this clutch. The parents of these two were both jungle corns (likely from several generations of same) so no problem with breeding them - both had fed well after coming out of cooling and they were more interested in breeding.

This is the father of the clutch and most of the albinos looked more like him, with smaller orange saddles. There were a couple that had almost no yellow. I will be really interested to see how much orange these guys retain as they mature,
