View Full Version : how, where do cresties lay ?
I posted that in the breeding/incubation forum and got no answer.. Will I have better chances here ?
:P
I'm use to breeding leos and I'm soon going to be breeding cresties and Uroplatus.
Colelcting the eggs for the leos it's pretty simple, we simply leave a humid lay box in the tank and females go and leave their eggs there.
How do we collect creties and Uroplatus eggs ? Do they lay in lay boxes ? If not, what can we do to make it easier to fing theses eggs ?
Thanks.

If you provide no other suitable site, a nest box arrangement works for Rhacs and Uros too. I prefer to give my animals fully landscaped terreriums, so it makes for a bit of a challenge. I've missed the last three clutches from my females ciliatus. Oops!
If you go for the spartan approach, line the cage with paper towel or newspaper and provide a box big enough for the gecko. Most people will use moist peat moss or soil for these gex. You could probably use vermiculite in the nest box as well.
In my cages I find that the cresteds will simply roll the moss up or climb under it and drop their eggs right on the surface of the soil. That reminds me, I should check that this morning.

Yup, I've already had an overlooked clutch hatch in the cage. I was surprised to say the least! I thought it was a turd on the cage door until I saw it had legs! It turned out that the female got a little ambitious and buried the eggs 2 inches below the surface of the soil.
