Pet shops charge 140 for what???

Beardies need Uvb no lower than 5.0 (i recommend Zoo Med) LIghting along with a basking bulb.

They also need suplementation of Calcium poweder with no Phosperous and Herptivitamin. I recomend Rep-Cal for the brand.

Exoterra also has an 8.0 bulb which is really just a 5.0 and it's only about $30-$40. Zoo-Med bulbs are a bite more. UV gives them d-3 wich alows for the absorbtion of calcium.

I bought my UV light holder thing, the flourescent bulb holder deal, at a hardware shop for about $15. The ones at the pet stores are really expensive, so I shopped around. I bought the UV bulb at a pet store for $22.

ya dont get that stuff at the pet store go to home depo or places where you got a hardware store, you will save you sell like 100s of dollars, and feed your dragon d3 if its still a baby

You should get the florescent bulb 5.0 zoomed bulb and the Heat lamp fixture at the petstore. I don't suggest the heat lamp fixtures from places like home depot cause thiers are made from plastic and the ones at the pet store are most likely porcilin (sp) (the plastic once break sooner). I haven't seen porcilin heat lamp fixtures at home depot.

The florescent light fixture you is cheaper at home depot and places like that. The bulbs that say they are for uv for plants really arn't that good for reptiles they don't contain enough uv for bearded dragons.

Actually most of the petstores one are made from the same components as the home depot ones. Just check to make sure they are 150 w or higher and you won't have any problems. Unless you buy a ceramic light, then you need one of those dome things that resist major heat, like the ones you can buy to check under your car.

Bulbs made for use by humans such as plant bulbs must be coated to block UVB rays that can cause cataracts and skin cancer in humans, so only bulbs specifically made for the pet trade emit enough UVB to do a herp any good.

if you're going to get a .5 and especially a .8 uvb bulb.. try to get a double bulb hood so you can also put in a .2
it will help to get the light brighter which is not only good for you to see your beardie, but good for his or her mentality.
