knowing that sunglows are line bred amels, plus knowing that the motley gene reduces black in normals(thus white in amels?). Is there a reliable way to tell the two apart? My amel(Kathy Love) had quite a bit of white, her offspring vary including one I kept that I would say looks like a sunglow. Looking at pics online I find it hard to see any difference in the motleys while the regular patterns do show some difference.
Actually there is a whole lot of difference in a sunglow and amel motley.
A sunglow is a selectively bred amel. These are selectively bred so that no or almost no white occurs on the animal. Thus the name sunglow.
Where the amel motley is a completely different thing. There are amel genes affecting the phenotype of the animal thus making it amel. Plus there is another gene in there that affects the pattern of the animal, the motley genes. Thus if you look at it that way the amel motley has two homozygous genes affecting it at the same time where the sunglow only has 1 homozygous gene affting the phenotype.
The easiest way to tell apart a sunglow and a amel motley is by the belly checkering. The motley genes affects the snake's belly phenotype by making it completely patternless. Where the normal corns have their normal checkering on the belly.
Now if you say that your sunglow and your amel motley looks around the same then you either have yourself a regular amel or a sunglow motley (which is also selectively bred to have no white on blotches and at the same time keeping the motley influence in the snake.
Hope this helped and hope that I didn't add anymore confusion to your question...lol

ack! I guess I should clarify. A sunglow motley vs. an amel motley, rereading my post I see the confusion lol.
A sunglow motley IS an amel motley. Same thing basically. You could easily assume a sunglow motley will be brighter though as they are breed for less white and brighter colors etc etc.
So when you have a sunglow motley and an amel motley I would assume it works just the same as sunglow vs. amel. It seems to be so by all the photos online as well. But then again I may be wrong. :D:D

Sunglow motleys are amel motleys as said by Marisa.
They are the same thing....only selectively bred for no to little white on th snake at all...lol....so that is why they might look at bit alike....hahah
