I went to Coastalreptiles.com just to see if California has any restrictions on keeping them. It said No permit is required for Native species, but one is required for an Exotic, is their definition of an exotic like a cobra or gabbon viper or is the definition of an exotic a species that does not live in California?

AFAIK it is all dependent on which county you live in. Let me do some research and I will get back to you.

An "exotic species" is one that does not occur naturally in Cali.

I use to live in California and dspoke with a friend of mine on this subject a few months back.1st to get the permit for exotics good look you have to know someone to get it basically and California defines an exotic as a Non-Indiginus<sp> species. As toNative species you need a California fishing license to own them or collect them , also there are limits on the neumber os species you can posses and many local cities and counties have restrictions.

The best bet is to contact your local regional office of the DFG and then check your local city and county laws as well.Good luck.
