Hiya!

This is my newly purchased Vantage FV-575 :D:D

To all skilled guitar players: Do you have some tips for me or some things to practice to gain speed? I also have difficulty getting the right sound for my songs. I wanna try to play Du Hast by Rammstein but i can't get the right sound with my amp :(

Here is a picture of it: Fender Performer 1000, 100W treble, bass, reverb and distortion on 2 gains.

Ooooo... Du hast. You must be a novice. That song uses one power chord and barely changes at all. :)

You want your distortion all the way up, and give it some reverb to make it sound better. I'd also recommend a death metal distortion pedal.

As for the speed, well... get your pick comfortable and practice, practice, practice!

I agree, there are not tips for learning speed. Take that pick and practice practice practice like invictus says. I myself like older rock. My fav to play is led zeppelin with the badass solos. A little metallica here and there is pretty cool too.

What i learned to get speed up was to learn to finger tap. It sounds strange but its probably the best way that i can think of to get your fret hand moving quickly. I studied and practised ( notice a theme here!) euruption by van halen for months. The speed of the song also taught me some pretty wild chord characters, hammer ons, vibrato and to a certain extent harmonic pinches. Once you learn these tricks the pick slides up and down your hand while your playing and adjusts itself almost as if magically to reach a tone or a desired speed. Power chords..full out...pick all the way as far from your hand as you can. Pinches and any sort of heavy harmonics...bring it in super close as if your trapping the pick with your thumb. Its hard to explain..it will just come after some time. The best advice to guitar is this..and trust me..im no master..but with this instrument, i hate to sound like a cliche..but you must walk before you can run! Good luck :D

I should add...nice amp...i dont use fenders all that often..but i do have a fender bass man thats old..and a fender rockpro 1000..which is basically the larger version of that amp i believe...except i modified mine with Celestion Vintage P30 speakers :) I used to have a princeton 60 or 65..cant remember the exact model...for a practise amp..nice amps! But i still put my faith in God and in Marshall tube amps!!!

i learned a great speed exercise. put your first finger (that's index, no?) on E4 and play the E string once. Then put the second finger on E5 and play the E string once again.

Repeat this process with the third finger E6, and fourth finger on E7, each time playing the E string once. So now you've played four notes. Do this four times. Each time you play the string, if you're using a pick, alternate between picking up and picking down.

Then, move down to the A string, and repeat the process, but with the A string. Keep doing this for D, G, b, and e. After you play the e cycle four times, go back up and play the b cycle four times. Then the G, then D, then A, then E.

I noticed significant improvement in my speed and ability to finger chords after starting and ending my daily practice sessions with a few runs of this excercise.

I hope this made sense to you the way I described it...it's awesome!

I'm the proud owner of an ESP F-100 and a Fender Twin :D I dont have either at college at the moment since the amp is incredibly large and I dont have a small practice amp.

This is cool, more tips please!
I am legendary for being able to play "most" of "many" songs - never got the hang of solos!
...and how do you remember the chords & riffs? I tend to learn something in great detail then pick it up again in a couple of days to find I can't remember where to start!
Maybe I just don't have that kind of brain, or I had a blow to the head when I was a kid! :hammer:

I play a Aria STG (inexpensive but good quality copy of a strat), with a little peavy rage 158 (not the new model, but the oldest rage). I play mostly punk, so no tips on anything at all :D I've been playing for about 8 months now, me n my crappy band play turning japanese, dammit, blitzkrieg, and punk rock girl over and over again for hours and hours... lots of fun...

Nice guitar! and if thats the one I think it is, that is one sweet amp...

My friend plays a fender 112 stage SE, and its DAMN loud... but ther's almost no volume control on it, you can turn it halfway between 1 and 0, and you can hardly tell the difference if you crank it up to 8 or 9... very loud for its size, but again, no volume control...

I agree with Shane. I started to get a little quicker when my friend showed me finger tapping. I have a Fender Strat and an Ibenez Jem. I'm looking for a Les Paul now. The one I really want is the Peavy Wolfgang. I'm outta luck on that one because they are not making it left handed or atleast they weren't last time I checked.

I've just tried to do the slide at the start of Du Hast but I think my fingers aren't placed right. These are the notes of the first riff:

Ok here is the fingering most used by the majority of players.The first chord is fingered index on the 5 fret of the E string(A note) ring finger on the 7 fret of the a string(E note) Pinky finger on the 7 fret of the D string(A note) this gives you an A5 power chord in the 5th position. Slide all your fingers down to the third position(down in tonality) this gives you a G5 power chord.The last chord is an E5 power chord and is best played by fretting the A string and the D string with your index finger while letting the E string ring open (E5 power chord).The sound you hear on the recording can be created with many different set ups in equipment( extra cost) Get the tune happening first worry about the sound second. the best sound in the world wont make you sound good if you don't play well. I see you have 3 chords above I have as of yet sat down to play this song but I think there are 2 more chords in it ( you figure them out) not fair to you for me to figure it out for you. if you need any books or scales or web sites to help you out let me know. I f you want to know what gear I have just ask.

I have some exercises that can help you with your speed ,but here is a rule you should follow first you get good then you get fast (walk before you run) I hope cranwill will put some input into this question too.

Hey hip..you copied my quote "walk before you run" lmao...great minds brother! Hip taught guitar for years and is about 1000 times more advanced then i am so hes a very good person to learn from...especially if you want to learn proper techniques and styles and scales etc.

Someone asked about sandman and master of puppets i think? Sandmans solo is pretty basic to play...master is up until that super high note near the end of the last solo. That note was actually the E string accidently pulled right off the fret board and it got stuck. I read an article where Kirk Hammit of Metallica said that it was totally accidental and that he can't repeat it to this day...once it was recorded they just listened to it and liked it so they decided to leave it. Other then that note..i can play it...and most of metallicas stuff...big fan :)
