A friend of my dad sent him this picture a while ago. His job is to clear colvert drainage pipes from clogs and such, well, when he saw this, I imagine he backed away very slowly and let them be!

It would be interesting to hear fromt he person that was there since this photo has long since been believed to be staged. If he said it just happened, then it is not true. This photo has been circulating for about a year or so. But who knows, it may be a genuine photo.

Yeah, I have seen both this picture and the gator picture. You can also find the gator in the reptile record section of www.screptiles.com

www.screptiles.com should be up later today if you have trouble accessing it. Chuck is working on some new features and info.

I heard there is a new word out for this kind of urban legend thing :)

Just for clarification Monty, noone here is saying that you or your friend are not telling the truth, we just all get these types of pics circulated to us so often that it is often difficult to accept them as factual accounts.

THIS IS AN ACTUAL PHOTO TAKEN FROM THE PERSON THAT WAS THERE, THIS IS IN CALIFORNIA, NOT VIRGINIA.

I've seen that picture before too. Now, my field IDing skills aren't all that great (um, if it's got a rattle, let BW get it), but is that even a species native to CA? Or is the story that Dad's friend works somewhere else and just e-mailed it? The last time I saw this pic, it had the bit about the 12 foot gator also. But who knows...

To me, they look like Western Rattlesnakes, which are native to California, where the pic was taken, California has 5 species of Rattlesnakes. I didn't hear anything about the 12 foot gator though. I will ask my dad if this is true or not. If he says it's true will you believe me then????

I am very confused .Was the Gator and the rattlers together? If so when was the last time Alligators crossed in to California. Now if this was in Texas I could believe it a little more as the species do overlap there. Can anyone help with the confusion .

Well, regardless of it being genuine or fake, that is a very cool picture. :)

Ask your Dad's friend when he took this picture.

Then go check the date on this post from another forum:

Okay, you guys are right, I am wrong, it just looked like a cool picture and I thought I would share it with the rest of you. My humble appologies to everyone.

I never said that I knew anything about the 12 foot gator being in California, I know that gators don't live here.

Thank you for your honesty.

The funny thing about reptile pics is that they reach an extraordinary amount of herpers real quick and are verified or discredited quickly. I remember when the pic of the "guy swallowed by the snake" came out. I had several people tell me that their friend was the one that took it and it was discovered quickly to be a hoax. Most of us have become so jaded that any extraordinary pic is handled with a great deal of scepticism (sp). But I must say, if that was a real pic, I would love to have been the one there :)

Yeah I saw that "swallowed guy" pic. I didnt know it was fake until you said so. Have you seen the one with the alligator and the guy in its stomach? I heard that was a fake also. Bad thing is, ya never know if the pic you're seeing is real or not. Too much doctoring these days.
