Feeding on Cypress mulch.

sure, offer the food on a plate or bowl to avoid impaction

I put paper towel over my subrates right before I feed.

Don't feed on any type of substrate that could cause impaction to your snake, even if you place the prey on a plate or something you snake could still drag it back onto the mulch. Play it safe and feed in an empty rubbermaid, don't take a pointless risk.
