Not bad... "Nice and cheap" is the best. That means you have money left over for more snakes! :D

Very cool, and innovative.
What are the ambient temps?
I find those, floresent lights deceaving as the bulbs are kinda cool but the ballests get quite hot.
BTW, how are you heating it, and what manufacture makes the tub.
Cheers!

Why?????
what is wrong with using rubbermaids?
and what do you mean no ventilation??? LMAO
you drill holes in the sides man. thats all you need.
And cheaper is better as long as you can make it work.
It sure beats the hell out of using glass aquariums.

Spoken like a true novice. These are the type of people that think their snake will enjoy life more if the cage looks better to the keeper!!
All I have to say to that is bwaaaa haaaaa haaaa!!!!! :D

that is the nicest, cheapest setup i have ever seen, one of the smartest things i have ever seen done to a rubbermaid. great idea, gonna have to copy it lol
I don't like the look of rubber maids, but I do use them for some of my snakes. I also use custom melamine cages that I can see clearly in and some aquariums that have a "natural looking" setup.

I think that is a nice set up. Nothing wrong with saving some coin and still providing all the essentials. Good work :D

how long do you think this enclosure will be big enough for a my bp or how big of bp is it enough room for.
HetForHuman
09-24-03, 07:56 PM
im using a 36"x18"x18" and it will prob keep my male ball in it for the rest of his life, unless he gets awfully big.
But im sure that should last you quite awhile man.

I went To Home Depot last night and got a 60 quart for $8 and a light fixture (incandecent I think), but I was wondering how did you attatch it to the RubberMaid Dan??
The back of the light I bought has mounting hole so I'm guessing just measure equal holes for screws to mount the light.
But yes I am also concerned with a snake rubbing upagainst it and possibly knocking it off or burning its belly.
What's the best way to avoid this?

I just used two bolts and nuts Like the ones in the pic and drilled two holes in the plastic. The light i have in there dosent seem to get that hot its warm to the tought but i dont think its warm enough in any way to burn the snake. So Far it seems to be working out really well for me.

The light i have in there is Fluorsent not incandecent So maybe thats why your worried about it burning itself.
GeminiDragon
09-26-03, 11:31 AM
The light I bought is probably fluorecent also, it's one of the cheapest Home Depot had. I just wasn't sure if you had any problems with your setup so far, thanks for the info.

dan2492
10-13-03, 02:24 PM
I got it at Wal-Mart Cost me $10 and its about 30 gallons and i secure the lid with s hooks i just drill thru the the lid and the top of enclosure and slide hooks thru.

Man, those are so sweet. I'm also having trouble finding that particular type of rubbermaid. Hell, I'm trying to find all kinds of them. Maybe I'll just become a rubbermaid distributor *L*

Maybe those type aren't available in Canada? I went by Walmart today for Rubbermaids as well and they had tons of these, all different sizes. I picked up 3 52.43 quart ones for my babies that are coming.
They are called "Clever Latch" and they are by Rubbermaid. The size I got cost a little under $6.
Anyway, nice setup dan! It looks really nice and I agree, one of the nicest Rubbermaid setups I've seen!

how do u do the light fixture in da rubbermaid..
will it burn or melt ?
can the snake touch the light, or is it 2 high ?
nice idea, smart as hell....
im working on a much small rubber maid right now.
dan2492
11-12-03, 12:29 AM
I put a picture earlier how i attach it, i just drill thru the plastic . It dosent get very hot on top not hot enought to melt plastic and the snake can reach it but it isnt hot enough to hurt the snake

Dan, in another post I asked if anyone had had issues with heating rubbermaids and heard that I should use Heat tape w/dimmer and/or thermostat.
I noticed you said you were using a UTH and wondered what size (for your large rubbermaid) and whether you're having any issues maintaining proper temps.
dan2492
11-26-03, 10:38 PM
i think its 11"wide by 12" long and 20watts seems to be heating pretty good only problem is the cool side gets a little too cool but thats because i keep my house temp at like 65
dan2492
11-26-03, 10:39 PM
and its on a dimmer

did you follow the typical "how to wire your rheostat" instructions seen in other posts here? If so, I'll just do the same....
Also, do you have problems with the self-adhesive sticking to the plastic? Mine won't seem to stay on completely
dan2492
11-27-03, 10:32 AM
yeah
i have one stuck on the plastic and seems to hold fine but that was a store bought one the others i just put in between and it seems to be working good

I never use the sticky part. I just leave the backing on. I am always changing things around so I don't want to risk ruining the heat tape by peeling it off.
I am thinking about building a bare-bones rack setup using your idea, dan. If I get it together I will put a post up so you can see what I mean.
