View Full Version : The Big BCI Challenge...
There has been much debate over BCI size. As far as I know the largest recorded was under 12 feet. Now there have been many *unsubstantiated* claims to BCI attaining such sizes as 14 or more feet. So here is a challenge to all of you... can anyone come up with any *factual, credible* evidence of this?

Holy! That's one fat assed boa... lol...
The pic posted is from Herman S of Munich Germany and if I remember correctly is a B.c.c female from Peru. Chunky if you post someone elses pics please give them credit (nasty things can happen to Jeff our site owner you know) If I remember correctly this female is around the 10 foot mark or very close to that footage.Herman's boa's are just amazing and he is a credit to our hobby for keeping purity in all the boa's he keeps.

I have been keeping boa's of some sort since I was about 15 years old (before it was cool or accepted to do so) And in all honesty the biggest boa I have ever seen is a female Colombian I had while I lived in Atlanta Georgia a while back. She was a measured 9' 2-1/2" long and weighed in at 42 pounds (my friend still has her and she is about the same size to this day) I remember some one on this site telling me a while back he had seen a 14' boa at a show in Quebec I told him to bring it to a show And I would buy it for cash (price was not given) needless to say I have as of yet to see this 14' boa (what do you think about the person who said this to me?) I honestly think if you get a female to hit 10' you got a monster on your hands (Bci or Bcc) 12' could and probably has happened but is very rare.

I think the kid is uneducated and thinks its a burm or retic probably. Either that or is blowing smoke up your @$$!!!
This cage is 4x2x1 I THINK! IF anything SMALLER!

There is a male with it.....but still you can see the size of this monster!
THis was taken at a local show I attend. My friend said it was probably about or over 9ft. Its head was just monsterous.
I would not take that advice if I were you. First off it is the B.C.I that is 7-12 feet(depending on the sex) I have worked with enuf of them to know, anacondas hit the 23-26 foot mark and it is not unheard of a B.C.C reaching 15 feet and it is more commen then you think (hip). B.C.C is a big boa and not to be taken lightly just cause it has the word boa in it. fierfoz you said you could choose a B.C.I also not to be rude to you in any way but you should get that first they are a bit easier to care for the size is beter to get started with and the chances of geting a nasty one are slime not saying you will not get a nasty I have yet to come across a well fed well taken care of nasty B.C.I but that is just me man there is nasty cornsnakes out there for that mater but seriusly handel a 7-9 foot boa then come and tell us how it was and then add a good 5 feet extra dont for get boas pythons anacondas there not fat... pond for pound it is almost all muscule and there are even stronger if they were wild caught they had to kill all the things they eat there not spoield with pre kill'ed stuff us humans have. That is all I have to say about that at least now you will never be abel to say you never knew and we never told you.
I know suries are great looking but get informed and I mean realy informed chanlenge ppl on this site about what they say dont just eat every thing that is said there is some ppl that like to be pretend herpers and will say any thing for a post and hip is NOT one of them we have difrent views and difrent sorsuses of info thats all but since I was 6 I loved giant reptiles there is ppl hear that have owned them since they were 6 but I was not one of them I was stricly books for at least 10 years (my mom hates them) whenI was 17 I got my first herp I was 18 I qualified to work in a zoo I am now 20 and raising 2 boas for breeding projects just so I can say i did it and I am reciving 2 retics in a few monts it took me for ever to find a reptuabel dealer for a good price and then close the deal but I love big snakes and it is all I know I worked with a 12 foot anaconda and let me tell you I would just imagine another 10 feet on her and I was drouling be cause I cant wait to see such a big animale and be abel to say I played a big part in its life so ya now I am realy go shut up but if you like chating large constrictor or need info give me a shout if I cant help you I will help you find who can. later
This is one of the posts leading up to my offer I will post the rest of them as soon as I find them

sorry but if anybody went to the salon des reptiles this weekend in montreal there was a 12 foot BCI there and that proves that they can get that size. I dont need to convince myself or anybody else that i have knowledge in large snakes, you just need to check my gallery to see that plus i have nothing to prove to anybody here. Just because you have a lot of years of experience, you never stated what you worked with. Plus someone could have 5 years of experince with Large Boids, and know nothing about cornsnakes and that can go both ways. If someone like you has like 20 years of experience with colubrids...doesnt mean you know anything more than the person with 5 years of keeping, studying and handling large boids.
The fact that i state that i have knowledge in snakes (large boids) is simply to inform the treadstarter and not to convince or brag to anybody. Just cause you read several thread where ive stated that doesnt mean the person who asks the question took the time to look at all the threads ive posted in.
Pretty much im just saying that my knowledge isnt made up. Just because you buy a boa(BCC) and its supposed to reach ten feet doesnt mean people shouldnt be aware that it could go ''out of the normal''.
Here is a continuation of that debate (decide for yourself)
Hip
Record length for a Bcc is 18.5 feet. Average? Ha ha, certainly not!! Average is around 9-11 feet for females in captivity, and a few feet less for males. AVERAGE does NOT mean that's what the snake is capable of. Its all the sizes added up and averaged out. It means that that is what the snake can be expected to get to under normal circumstances.
Bci adult females are usually 6-9 feet with exceptions. Keep in mind that these are the same species as Bcc for crying out loud. They can and will contain the genetics to get larger. Until they fully speciate (not in our great great etc etc etc grandchildren's lifetime), there will be big Bci's and small Bcc's. Genetics man. There's 8 foot-high people, but is that the norm?
Also, that 12 foot Bci you've seen; I'd be very very impressed if you could tell me exactly how you can be certain it's parents weren't Bci X Bcc crosses.

a friend of mine has 2 monster BCI females. He figures they have to be around the 10 foot mark each. These are the biggest ones I've seen with my own eyes. They are absolutely HUGE!! He houses each one in an 8X4 cage. Don't know how much they weigh, but they are as thick as tree trunks and difficult for one person to pick up unassisted. We always joke around that he has a new subspecies....Boa constrictor giganticus LOL
The Metro Zoo also has a very large female BCI.

i followed this link and it stated that the largest BCC, it said boa constrictor, every caught was 18.5. I assume they were referring to the bcc

Average? Definitely not. Real? Definitely not! There was a claim in a book written back in the 60's of a BCC caught and killed in Trinidad that measured 18.5'. This actually turned out to be a misidentified anaconda  However it is still floating around as truth in some instances (such as on that zoo page).
I don't think our BCI is a record, but she's certainly a handful at 8'. We don't handle her alone, she can do some damage if she wanted. thats only 8' and 3 or 4 years old.
we have a 10 foot bci here her name is big lou she is little over 40 pounds puppy dog tame hope she produces me some nice babies this year.i will try and get a pic of her soon.
Omg those are some big BCIs... i surely would think there would be some 14' ones out there somewhere.. but probably doesnt have a photo..

Some of you may have seen a pic of Babe the Snake that I posted before, and I was asked if I had one that showed her full length. Here it is. The man in the middle of the photo is my step-dad amd he is 6'4" tall. Babe has the last 2 feet wrapped around my sisters waist and leg. This is the largest BCI I have ever seen.

If you figure that a persons arm span is the same as their height, and it usually is, that makes her at least 9' or more. I was mistaken on the previous post when I said that she was close to 14'. My mother's wishful thinking! Still a big snake.

Wow, that is most definitely a big snake! And a BEAUTY too, I might add. Yeah, I'd believe 9 or 10 feet for that big girl...

Well 7 to 9 feet is big as far as I'm concerned. A BCI is probably the largest species that I'd ever have. And, those BCI's are so beeyootiful :D

I'm AnniesMom's mom, and Babe the snake was my baby for almost 30 years. All my kids grew up with her(him) around. The best natured reptile I've ever had, or seen. She (he) died June 6, 2002 after 27 years of educating preschoolers, primary kids, kids in hospitals, kids in outreach centers, and many adults along the way. And yes I exaggerated her length somewhat. She couldn't actually have been longer than 12 feet, but the only way to measure them accurately is when they're dead, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
I'm glad to see she's (he's) still educating people. Miss you Babe.
