high yellow normal

could you consider Farkus a high yellow normal, shes the lighter in the pic. thats Lance is curled in the middle, unsure of his new friend

Actually, she doesn't look like she has any yellow in there, or barely any, but she does have lighter brown. Looks normal to me. As a sidenote, (not directed at anyone in particular, just a mini-rant) I can't understand why people can't just be happy with their 'normal' balls? Would you love your normal ball any more if she was a high yellow, banded, yellow belly.........?

Ya, my little female looks really light colored compared to my male, my male is darkwith yellowish sides, with little dark spots....and he has a "black back" with little spots of light caramel brown spots.......my female has the carmel brown spots to....but my male has the yellow.

The six that I have are all normals, but you put them next to eachother, and they are ALL SO different. One is high yellow compared to one with lots of black and brown, one is that olive greenish color??? and one looks TOTALLY pastel, she is an exact portrait of some pastels I see up for sale. But I know she isn't and thats perfectly fine. I love them all. ;)

I think he looks pretty normal too :) Just a little lighter color.

And I agree with emroul - put them together and they look totally different. I noticed this the other day when I put my two together for the first time and took a few pictures:

My male is seems a lot lighter and more yellow than my female. But he's still a normal just the same :)

My 2 males look nothing alike and most of the BP's ive seen in stores also look different, one is orange with some white around his orange and my other male is light brown with alot of white showing.

Can't really be both at the same time. Check out some pics on line of high gold balls and you'll see the difference. Farkus is still an amazing looking snake either way.

Well, actually, it can be both. To the best of my knowledge, 'high yellow' is not yet been defined as a colour morph (much like albinos, snows, axanthics, pastel jungles). The other type of 'morph' are normals with abberant patterns (goblin, labyrinth, jungle). So yes, a high yellow normal is just that, a higher than average yellow-coloured normal BP. Beautiful, as they all are, but a normal nonetheless. P.S. I would be more interested in the colouring of the other ball in the pic. Seems to be pretty coffee-esque or cinnamonny.

Mykee if you had a true high gold ball python I'm sure you'd call it anything but normal. Is is genetic, yes. Is it simple receive traits or co-dom at work no. But never the less they are brighter then "normal" so how can we call them normal?

Boidkeeper; actually yes, we can call it a normal. You see, that's what makes 'normal' ball pythons so awesome, none of them look the same. Their patterns and shades are so wonderfully varied, ensuring everyone who owns a ball python has their very own unique one. They are beautiful but alas, they are not a morph. Hence, they are 'normal'. You can call it whatever you wish, a high gold, a blushing, a full stripe, a black back, a brown back and yes, they may be genetic, but that does not make them anything but a nice normal. See, you can't really have a rule as to what a 'normal' BP looks like, since none of them appear to be similar. Maybe you could call them a 'super- normal', or 'abberant normal' possibly even 'high gold normal' but normal nonetheless.

Well I completly agree with all your points so I guess it's just maybe terminalogy were not agreeing on. I agree 100% with your definition of normal but I still don't consider normal as your garden variaty looking import because they have been selectively bred to bring out as much gold and yellow as possible. Therefore I call them high yellows or golds. Black backs are normals too but I call them black backs not normals. Speaking of black backs I can't believe some of the prices I've been seeing on them lately. Pretty high for a normal eh?

Excellent, I'm glad we're on the same page regarding this topic. I guess calling them what they look like avoids any type of confusion. As long as we agree that they are still normals, and should be priced as such. I think we should tell some of those shifty-eyed breeders who post on the "other" classifieds who sell their high yellows, full-stripes, and black backs for morph prices.

LOL- Could you imagine if they made a true morph out of every single different color that came out of a normal? WOW would that get confusing!! Everything is normal if it is not a piebald, albino, axanthic, clown, etc. That would be alot of colour morphs!!!!! (high yellow, high gold, reduced gold, blah blah)
