Two quick questions... 1, what's a good temp for mex mexs, and 2, do they ever need soaking? I haven't seen mine in his water bowl in quite a while, over 2 sheds ago in fact. He used to hang out in there all the time. He looks fine and maybe I'm being paranoid, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks

I keep my snakes at 75F- 85F with few problems. Once in a while my mex mex will soak, but not often. If all his requirements are met, I would doubt he'd NEED soaking. Most snakes will from time to time spend a few hrs. in the water. If they spend a lot of time there, check them carefully for skin problems and parasites.

We keep our mexmex at same temps as crimsonking and they never soak - they will wrap around the outside of the waterbowl, especially on hotter afternoons, but don't go in the water. No shedding problems with any of them even though humidity ranges 35-55.

They are great snakes - hope you can post some photos of yours - love to see them,

The mexicana group are normally from fairly dry habitats and usually shed OK with fairly low RH. I've kept and bred all the Mexicanas on sand, and had little trouble with low humidity
Chronic soaking is abnormal and can be an indication of 3 things which should be investigated
1. mites
2. the temperature is too high
3. there is no other suitable hide

Thanks guys... from day one he's been on aspen which he loves to burrow in, and has one of those half coconut hide things and a chunk of mopani wood. The temp is 79-80 on the hot end. He's never had a problem shedding or eating. Guess I was being paranoid after all lol
