Monkey tail skink owners...any other than ME?

I used to own one a couple years back. I had a pvc coated wire cage, dimensions were about 4 ft tall, 2 feet deep, and 2 1/2 to 3 feet wide if i remember right. I had branches and plastic plants inside. I kept a bowl of water and also a shallow bowl of pretty damp sphagnum moss in the cage.

I was looking at some monkey tail skinks just yesterday as a matter of fact. I do plan on getting one sometime in the future thought. I have always liked them. I'd like to see what owners have to say so I will definitely be watching this topic .

We're working with a small group of Corucia's currently. They are really fun to work with. Hopefully we'll see some chubby females come spring time :)

whew...I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my love for Corucia!
My only contacts so up till now are far South of the border.

I have a single female. She was a pet shop rescue and has clearly had shed problems in the past...as evidenced by many missing digits. I have had her since April of this year.

I have no idea if she is WC or CB as the shop she came from gave me varying stories as to how she came to be with them. It was never the same story twice.

What behaviours have you noticed with your PTS? Have you had them long? What are their favourite foods? What temp/humidity do you keep them at?
Do you provide a UV source? What about supplements?

I'm SO new to PTS...and with the Northern climate being so different from Florida/South Carolina where the other keepers are...I'd be interested to know if you do anything differently than them (besides the obvious...not keeping them outside year round)

Sorry for the rapid fire questions...and everyone is more than welcome to share their thoughts/advice...current, past and future owners.

P.S... NiagaraReptiles...my ONE corucia goes through Pothos like no tomorrow...the one in the picture looks pretty lush! Do you have to replace yours often?

We have a colony of PTS for the last couple of years. They were basically a rescue - we are hoping they will breed sometime soon. Do you know of the PTS society in the US - they were very helpful . Definitely neat ceatures!!

I kept mine at a pretty high humidity. Like a said, a large water bowl, a shallow bowl of sphagnum moss, and spraying everyday. To tell u the truth, I can't remember the temps cuz it's been a while. I know I kept him warm and humid, no uvb lighting since they are nocturnal, and I used a red spot bulb of pretty high wattage for heat. As for his behavior, he was a tame lizard. Altho, tame or not, I have never considered the monkey tails to be very even tempered. Mine used to absolutely LOVE to come out in the evenings. I was working 2nd shift at the time, and as soon as I came home and opened the door, he practically flew out of that cage! They are adorable lizards, in my opinion. I miss mine.

While I don't have any yet, I have been interested in them for a long time. I'm hoping to set up a small group in the near future.

Establishing contacts in this niche is vital right now. Poachers are violating the CITES ban on collection and export and further depleting already threatened populations of this animal. The sooner we can establish viable captive breeding programs the better.

Now if only they weren't so prone to biting...

Our Monkey Tails are fed primarily Dandelion and Endive greens, but also get a little of whatever else I looked good in the produce section when I was shopping (escarole, watercress, etc.). They also get some fruit occasionally consisting of mostly Prickly Pears. They also have Pothos available to them at most times, as well as Hibiscus (leaves and flowers).

I try to mist them at least once a day (at night just before their lights og out) and spray about two litres of water in their 4' x 4' x 2' cage. They stay at room temp, but have access to a heat source of around 120°F at all times. This is located in the lower portion of the cage so it does also provide a variance of temps above and around (various branches) the heat source.

I origionally kept only live plants in with them and this worked well for snacking and such, but quickly deminished the first time I missed a feeding. I now use most artificial plants for security and asthetic purposes and rotate "feeder" plants in the cage periodically.

They really are neat and I can't get enough of them. I'm working on space to house another group :)

I've got a loan female id like to pair up someday.. She's got quite the nasty disposition on her, i just leave her alone to climb and bask..... and of course eat, she likes doing that.. Funny, any other animal that ive had that was stressed wouldn't eat in front o fme. This one will charge at me when I go in to feed, but be totally fine to finish her meal in my presence! anyone elses like this

NOTHING gets in the way of Dill and her meal.
She will eat with my hands in her enclosure, with 3 or 4 people staring at her, even with two cats sitting glaring at her while she eats.
She doesn't stop until it's GONE.
