Drying Cypress Mulch.....

I recently bought some cypress mulch for my snakes' cages......well I had no idea this stuff holds moisture as well as it does......I have tried just about everything to try and dry this stuff out to where the whole cage doesn't fog up and drip condensation from the humdity. I have tried putting it in the oven, leaving it sit out for a while but it seems the warmer it gets, the more moisture it releases. I'm about to pull my hair out and just say screw it and take it all out and go back to aspen and paper towels. Any thoughts?

hmm well if you got to your local green house they sould have a chice between dry and not dry............ or you can try putting it in a glass Aquarium and let it sit out in the sun for a few day and with the heat from the glass it should dry it out

that weird..i bought my mulch and it was somewhat wet but i put it in my tank and the next day it was dryed out. Try leaving it in the sun or use a blow dryer but that might get a bit messy

lol, I tried the blowdryer and the mulch went everywhere. I have a spare glass tank so I will try putting it out in the sun.

Instead of a blow dryer you could try a heat gun. i know you can get them at Canadian tire for abour 20$, or you could rent one from pretty much any place that deals in industrial tools. Caution: they get quite hot and fire is a risk.

Drying out mulch too much can cause the wood to split, and you can cause your snakes splinters.. They can lead to infections etc. be very careful, you may want to use a different substrate all together.
