We fed our Motley Amel baby last night and she didn't strike...she "nosed" it. So we layed it down on the floor, and she ran her nose up and down the pinkie...then she tried to flip it over! So we picked it up with the tongs again, and she just kept on nosing it! So we dropped it, she went up and down the entire pinkies body and then went to the head of it and opened her mouth! Shd didn't eat it though she kept on nosing it! So we picked it up with the tongs again, finally she just opened her mouth and took it! It was almost like she was trying to measure the pinkie or something!!!!!!!!! Does anyone else's baby corn do this???

My two babies do this too. I just drop a pinkie in the cup and they smell it... find it... then nose it all over... and finally open their mouth to eat it (usually trying to eat it in half or backwards... dumb snakes ;) ) They are sort of fixated on the stick on thermometers in their cages too, i see them rubbing their noses all over those from time to time too.

My corns do that too and have since day 1. Especially young ones will "examine" their food by nosing, pushing, prodding, etc. It's pretty cute IMO :)

my king snakes always eye up the food before they eat it, unless i hand feed them with gloves or tongs (which is much more fun when they try and constrict it)

Ours are absolute machines. If we just drop the pinkie in, they might smell it for about a second or two, then they go crazy. They especially go nuts when it's dangled in front of them. That's my personal favorite way to feed.

Mine do the same thing. Even one of my older corns does that. Sometimes they'll nose it for just a second, sometimes for 20 minutes or so. Once a snake has started to nose the food, I've never had one not eat.

hmmm well I'm surprised she ate it, by the time she decided she was going to eat it was cold! We have not seen her constrict yet. she just mosey's on up to it, opens her mouth and eats.......thats all...lol
Yeah all my hatchling corns push and inspect the pinkies before eating them....a couple did catch on after a few meals that they could just devour them. But a couple others would come up, sniff and even jerk away as if they had just smelled the worst smell in the world. LOL but then they would eat it.

a little late after birth season to still be feeding pinks isn't it?
For me it sure is. All the ones I have left are on fuzzies. But it was just a couple weeks ago they were eating pinkies.

Ours are being moved up. I have a bunch of pinkies I still have to use up, so they're getting 2 at a time. I have enough for one more pinkie feeding, then the feeding after that, they get fuzzies.

Ours is only 1 month and 1 day (soon to be 2 day) old......so a large pink leaves a good sized lump, I'm saying another month or less and she will be on fuzzies.
