View Full Version : my snakes eating habits
I tried to feed my brb a rat pup as that is what the store manager said that she was eating, she wouldn't touch it. I left it with her for a long time ( a few hours) on the first attempt and over night on the second attempt. She didn't eat either time. So i waited a few days and fed her a hopper and she was all over it. I figured she was probably quite hungry (she hadn't eaten in 3 weeks) so i gave her a second one and she ate that. I gave her two more hoppers this week (a week later) and am wondering if i should try an adult mouse ( she looks big enough for it) or if i should stick with hoppers for a little while longer?

If she'll take multiple hoppers, she can definitely take an adult mouse. I'd move her up.

Try her on fuzzie rats, she can take them and they are better for her. Mine came eating fuzzie mice and I switched them to rats on their second or third meal. They turned a year old this summer and they are almost full grown already.
Cheers,
Trevor
Did you just leave it in or did you try dangling it? I agree with Trevor, switch her over to rats as soon as you can. If she was feeding on rat pups she's definitely at a size where she can take an adult mouse. I would recommend switching to rat though.

I'm not sure how big your snake is, so I'm not about to suggest a size (diameter of the prey is more important than quantity taken)... but the bigger question seems to be, why isn't it interested in rats. My ATB was very dis-interested in rats when I tried to switch her over, so I started scenting them with a mouse and she took it right away. I gradually got her to take them unscented, but it took about 5 or 6 feedings with mouse-scented rats to get her there.

swich to rats as soon as you can try to dangle the rat in its face for a second that seams to make mine eat.
