The feeding repsonse in these guys just takes over all reason and judgment for them. I was teasing this dude with a mouse and he went and bit the side of the Rubbermaid and started to constrict the mouse with the rest of his body. Well, I couldn't have that so I teased him with ANOTHER mouse and he went nuts after that one and ended up having both in his coils.
5 minutes later they were gone. So I fed him 4 more adult mice.
And tonight, he's cruising, looking for more. What a machine!!

Great pics Jeff, one of my females pulled that trick last week, gotta love it.
That's an amazing snake with, to say the least, a good apetite :). Try moving it to rats?
He's looking mighty thick Jeff! You must have an army of females to line him up with, right?
LOL Jeff! Um, did you say he ate *6* mice? :)

*LOL* Well done Jeff! Great looking snake. :)
LOL not the smartest little bugger eh! :p One would assume they have enough instinct to at least hit prey...lol...I've seen even burms constrict snake hooks before

Last night we had a baby corn do the opposite - she bit the prey and constricted the side of the feeding container. Then she proceeded to eat like an arboreal snake, kinda perched on the side of the container. :) The feeding drive of corns, kings, and milks never ceases to amaze me.

is that a 2 headed mouse or just 2 seperate mice???

Both my kings have to be cut off when they begin to look like snake-skin sausages. They digest in like 2 days and are back looking for more. The pain of these snakes, I find, is that you have to feed a lot of small prey instead of a few larger ones because of their tiny little heads.

Jeff
those albinos are incredible looking snakes - typical honduran feeding response - they are crazy - just one of their more appealing qualities.

We don't find that our kings or milks have any problem taking larger prey - despite the size of thier mouths - our adult kings and hondurans are all on rats - one to two rats per feeding - depending on what size rats we have available. They are still looking for more within a week but trying to keep up to them feeding mice was hopeless (and expensive) - especially females in the spring.

I've just found, in my experience, that the kings can't manage prey as big relative to other snakes of simillar body size and weight, like a corn or rat for example. This sure doesn't stop them from trying though. I've misjudged their abilities before and had to give them something smaller.
my prairie king is like that, after getting into feeding mode he tracks me. dunno if it's to eat me or see if i have more rats
