I was asked the other day why I have dedicated so much space to a species of snake that yields relatively low prices, compared with some of the other snakes on the market today. I mean, Ian and I hatched 4 Pastel Ball Pythons today where ONE Pastel is worth and ENTIRE clutch of Jungles (almost). It just didn't make sense to this guy, because 3 Jungle cages takes up the space of a whole BP rack that can house 12 adult breeding animals.
I mean, Jungles haven't reached corn snake status, and my animals still hover around the $250-300 mark. But when compared with the Ball Pythons, its just peanuts. So why bother to breed them. Well here's the thing. If you get the right animal, in my opinion, a Jungle Carpet Python is simply the most beautiful, show-stopping display animal on the planet. No kidding. They eat all the time, they are arboreal so they aren't your typical boring snake, and they are easy-as-mud to keep!!! If I were not a breeder and I were only allowed to keep one pair of snakes, I would get the nicest looking pair of Jungles (even if they cost me $500 each!!) and set up a nice display tank with plants and divide it for the two wicked Jungles. They are simply that cool-looking. When I think of tropical, exotic, amazing-looking pythons, ONLY Jungle carpets really come to mind. I remember back a few years when they were like $800 each!! And people bought them by the bucket-loads because they were the prettiest snake around!
Well, in my opinion, they are STILL the prettiest snake around. Not the most expensive, but who cares? Not everyone is into every project for oodles of cash. Some snakes are just a JOY to keep.
Jungle Carpet Pythons are tops on that list.
Sorry to have bored you all. Check out this pic of another little girl that will have her first clutch next year. Would you believe that the camera DULLS her colours? Unreal.
