View Full Version : Rats
How many rats could I put in a 45 gal long tank?
Thanks!

You might have ventilation issues with alot of rats in such a small space.

I'm pretty sure i read 1 rat per 10 gallons. but that seems awfully small. Id suggest maybe 1.2?? See how it looks and if you can add another go for it.

I have a glass pen that was originally going to be a coffee table terrarium. I partitioned it into two sections and am currently running two groups 1.2 rats (on each side) the partitions work out to around the size of a 33 gal. Everybody comfortable, everybody producing. Ventilation is no more of an issue then in a cage. They stink either way..;) So one adult rat per sq. foot is pretty good. If you are keeping it for juvi rats you can definitely go more as they tend to pile themselves up in a corner anyhow. I've had 20 (50-65 gr. rat juvis in a breeder cage) and nobody was tripping over anyone else.

I run 1.3 in the Giant Litter Pans and it works out fine. A 45 long would hold quite a few rats! Basically its best to play it by ear... were you wanting to hold a colony or jsut rats to grow to size? What are the floor space dimensions of a 45 long?
I'll check the floor space in a bit. Well, I want a colonie in there, but also a place to keep my blues which I like a lot. Their babies will be food, but I'd like to have a nice big colony in there instead of 1.1s or 1.2s in the litter boxes (i have a few of those in the rack too, of course).
