Does anyone know of any *reasonably* priced rabbit suppliers in Canada?

Whats reasonable to you??? I have started raising some breeders, should be ready to breed at the end of this month.
Not sure how serious we will get into them yet.
It all depends on the market and how much time and money it cost to keep them
. Personally i only have one snake that eats them,but i can never find them

Less than $8 a rabbit...lol... that's all I have been able to find them for, and at that price its cheaper to feed rats. Right now rats are sufficient for most of my snakes, but there are some that really need something bigger, as well as many of them are growing to size and in the next couple years I'm going to have the majority of my collection on them. I was hoping to be able to find someone local just to see if she will indeed take them, I don't mind shipping if I know she will take them so I can buy in bulk. I don't want to buy a whole bunch of rabbits only to find she won't eat em :confused:

one suggestion is to go or call local feed stores(cows, horses, chickens, rabbits) and see if you can find out or have your number given to folks that buy medium-large quantities of rabbit feed(generally someone that has more than a couple). My last 3 suppliers have been found that way.

Hello linds I'm a manager at a lps and i have 2 bunny breeders that suply me.What are you willing to pay and how many do you go through.I passed on 7 free bunnys yesterday because i don't have the room.I can get them all the time not the free ones but from the breeders.

Find out where the closest farmers auction is, you can find pretty much anything there. Last I heard Rabbits ussualy went for about $5 each. I know there used to be one in St. Catherines cause that's were my Grandfather sold all his rabbits to when he quit breeding, I don't know if it is still there though.

Yesterday at the show i paid $8. each for three rabbits between 3 and 6 lbs. the average jumbo rat is less then a pound, the retail price for a jumbo rat is $7-$8 depending where you buy them. I raise my own rats and if i were to raise a rat up just to be a jumbo feeder then i would have to feed him about $2-$3 in feed, so really i think that $8. is a very fair price.

Also have to consider that rabbits dont reproduce as quickly as rats, they take more work and a lot more space.

I sometimes find $5 rabbits but usually from people just trying to get rid of them. A good time to look is about three - four weeks after easter LOL.

best is to find someone that sells by the pound, the best guy I had was $1USD a lb but he seldom had anything over 6 lbs, still 2X5lbs was as good as a giant. I might go as high as $7.50 for a good 5lb, no giant but a very good size, $8 for a 2-3lb seems pretty steep though, I got 2 boas that prefer a good 10lb meal every 3-4 weeks and even the male wants about 8lbs. I buy my mice by the gram and prefer my rabbits by the lb not the animal.

I'm just trying to get a feel for price right now, I'm flexible to an extent, but of course the lower the better. I'm not sure how many I would go through as all of mine are on rats right now, I'm not sure if the one that really needs larger prey would even take them, as she is not a voracious feeder to start. I think for the time being I would only like to have her on bunnies...

Well I know that rabbits retail at $8 - $10 a piece so I don't consider it a fair price since retail is typically a large markup, as well as I have spoken to others that pay half that. I breed my own rats but don't have any place to set up a bunny hutch :(

well there is a rabbit breeder i know of here in alberta, and they are already frozen, and really cheap. ive been buying 1-2 pound rabbits for $1.00 a piece. and then the price goes up from there.
i know they ship live rabbits to the states all the time, but not sure if they ship the frozen ones. i think she did tell me she would though.

I sell my rabbits to pet stores for $10 wholesale!
The ones you are seeing for that cheap must be mixed breeds and the store would only be getting them for $5 minimum for them.
There is more work involved with raising them they eat more and take up more space. That is why it is hard to find any "cheap" rabbits.
Even farmers will only let go of their 8 week or so old rabbits for $5. The older and bigger they are the more money they are going to be.
It took 8 months to get a rabbit that we have now to be 10lbs.
There would be no way we would let him go under $10.00
Well we are not letting him go at all because he is our buck :)
We are starting to breed them just for feed and probably will be letting them go around 5-6lbs for $6 but like I said they take longer to get that big! Rabbit food is a little cheaper than Rat food but it takes more to get the Rabbit bigger therefore in the end it costs more to get them big enough to be worth the while to be feeders.
Good luck once and a while you get lucky and find somebody who is overpopulated and just is happy to get rid of them.

I know of three stores that retail their rabbits for $8 - $10 piece. These are not pet rabbits though, they are feed, and they are already frozen. Hehehe... I don't mind mixed breed bunnies and I'm sure my snakes don't...lol :p

living on a 100 acres and having a very large barn i cant wait to set up my rabbits.....i am currently looking for New Zealand meat rabbits to breed for feeders and for people (mostly my family), i havent decided yet on how much i want to sell them for, but i figure it should be under 10....i am hoping around 5 or 6. i have a few animals that would benefit from rabbits so even if i dont sell its all good

You also can try finding local butcher shops in your area. Another place to try is find Animal auctions in your area I know a lot of rabbits come down here from Canada to be sold @ auctions here. Sometimes rabbits go for $2.00 each now that's dirt cheap.

You should get some Flemish Giants, there the biggest rabbit in the world i think. ARRRGH!!!! GIANT RABBITS, NOOOOOOoooooo!
Does any one know how small a rabbit pinkie is? is it around 50-60 gram mark??
