Ladies and Gentelmen

I was recently asked by a friend about " Thrasops Jacksoni" the Jacksons tree snake. He said he believed it to be a venomous and possibly related to the boomslangs or savannah twig snake. Currently I have not been able to find to much information on this animal. A few pictures here and there and a few websites some saying harmless some saying rearfang venomous.

Does anyone Know anything about them or has anyone worked with them.

We had a couple shipped in but unfortunately they died in transit (the airline froze them! grrrr). Anyway, anecdotally they have a very rapid prey kill time and appear to be pretty hot. They are in the Colubrinae family and are related to the other African colubrines like the Dispholidus and Thelatornis genera.

Thank you Dr Fry. By chance did you preform any test on the venom and its toxins. If so what were your findings. I understand it would have had to be via a necropsy and the finding might not be as good as if it were a living specimen.

Western Black Tree Snake-Western Tanzania and Kenya. Uganda Congo basin-Kinshasa. Reaches 8 ft.Maybe 9? They have a very quick acting venom. Never heard of any particular cases or do I know the LD-50 but, seems pretty hot. Acts like a boomslang has a vertical neck display. Adults solid black juveniles have a pattern with an olive head. Rain forest species. Feeds mainly on chameleons, birds, frogs. Usually loaded with protozoans but ,very few worms other than rounds.(On imports that is) Have gotten them several times over the years. Not VERY forgiving for the free handlers. *Ask and you shall recieve!. Thanks Ray G. HBR

Scott, I currently have 1.1 T. jacksoni. They are fast snakes, with a fast feeding response. They typically have completely consumed their DEAD prey within one and a half minutes of offering live prey. Not sure on effect on humans, but I would love to know. They kill these mice very quickly. I would also be interested in knowing more about breeding these snakes. They are fun to work with, and fun to watch.
