BCI teeth?

I'm really curious on the size of BCI's teeth and i've wondered if it hurt if i ever get tagged.

anyone have a pic of a BCI striking or the results of a bite (love to see this).

It doesn't hurt so much as shock you, really. Their teeth are very sharp so you don't feel them as much as the impact. An adult bc is VERY powerful. You will be more bruised from the hit then the teeth..... LOL My 8' female whipped her head around one day (she was in blue and didn't know where she was going) and hit my arm. The movement against my arm caused he lip to curl enough to expose the teeth and get me. I never even knew until I looked down and saw the blood, HA! What you see is half of the top of the mouth..... the side row and center row ..... is what got me :D

Bci teeth up to about a 1/2 inch long, when my 8ft Bco (teeth comparable) hit me late last spring I had surgery to repair bones in the wrist and 8 weeks rehab after the surgery. Bleeding like a stuck pig during and right after the bite was the easy part. One tendon with a 1/2 inch slash, three small wrist bones damaged, numerous holes in flesh and cartilage punctures, fear no, respect definitely, even more so when they get some real size to them.

I agree with LdyDrgn, most snake bites are more startling than painful. Most of them I'd compare to razor cuts, so sharp that you don't feel a huge cut, but its hard to stop bleeding :p

You should consider all snakes unpredictable to one extent or another. Accidents happen when you forget they are wild.

I agree that you should never think of a snake as being "predictable" completely... but some are more predictable than others. I'd personally say that if you get a BCI as a baby and handle it often, you'd have better odds of winning the lottery than getting it to tag you. But this has been my experience. Those who have been tagged by a boa NEVER forget it. Look what happened to reverendsterlin.

Also, when many snakes bite (but again, I've never been bitten by a boa), they'll give you a warning shot, but not a full-out bite. I'd hate to get tagged by a BCI. I've seen them yawn. Those teeth scare me. :)

Hey solid snake,
Most snakes are unpredictable, but there are some that are somewhat predictable, its just a matter of "how well you know the snake" in my opinion. I have been bitten by my BCI 3 times and 2 of which were unsuspected. Also, as LydDrgn said, its more of a shock then pain because of the speed they strike at you just go like "holy $#!+"!!!

the problem is i dont hardly ever hold my snakes. maybe now once a month...

I do interact with it... i change the water frequently, and feed him. Should i handle him more often?

With something as big and strong as a boa, you DO NOT want it panicking when you do handle it. So yes, I'd say for the big boys, handle as often as you can. Once they learn to trust you, they do become "more predictable", ie, they are far less likely to tag you out of defense. Just don't go around smelling like rat. :D

They don't enjoy being handled so its fine if you don't handle them frequently. I only handle mine for general maintenance such as cleaning.
