Rubbermaids are good for breeder racks, but since it would be for your first snake, you'll more than likely want to see it quite often. A nice display tank would be MUCH better. If you're worried about the lid, get some cage clips or a brick or two.

Why would the snake care if it was in a rubbermaid instead of a tank?
He is probly young like I am and doesn't have tons of money. So why spend $60 + a lid, on a tank, when he could spent $10, and get a even larger rubbermaid, heck with the $50 he saves, he could get another corn:)?
This is just my opinion, but I would rather have a snake or two, than a piece of furniture.

Rubbermaid or tank, it doesn't matter, aslong as the husbandry requirements are being met. Personally I like to see my snakes, so I have many of them in tanks/display cages. I tend to decorate the heck out of them, such as backgrounds, fake plants, hollow logs, rocks, the little dens so you can see them in their hides, fancy water bowls, etc. I think I spend more on the set ups then on the snakes.

In rubber maids they get paper towel tubes or toilette paper tubes for hides, a deli cup for a water bowl and newspaper or paper towel for substrate. I do notice they are more active in the fancy set ups, but there is more for them to explore.

I am also curious to know what is a good size rubber maid for a adult corn snake?Where is a good place to get a big see through one?I went to walmart and they did not have a big enough one that was clear.

Id say either a 30-55 Gallon Tank or a 40 Gallon tote around there? I have a 55 Gallon Tote for my Rats and it is definately big enough for a corn. I can fit probably an 8ft burm in it.

I actually found some great ones at Sears... they are rubbermaid containers that are clear and also have a clear window on the lid too! I got a few the size of a 10Gal aquarium for about 7 bucks each and large ones roughly the size of a 20 gallon for about 10 bucks. Hard to beat that for a deal :D

Just make sure to have a weight on top if its a larger snake or you will be lookind for a fugitive before long.

A. Snakes aren't pet you get so you can show them off to "friends" Although I see your point about clarity of the tank.

B. Rubbermaids are far from "suffering" In reality they can cause the keeper to be a BETTER keeper for the snake since cleaning, disinfecting, and general maintanence are easier in them. Tanks are heavy to clean as well.

C. Clear rubbermaids are WIDLEY available. No not smokey clear ones, CLEAR ones. I guess if you feel 100% clear plastic is not as clear as glass, then um I don't know what to say. LOL.

Tanks can be easily used with cornsnakes though. Just get yourself a 10-20 gallon with secure lid. For a hatchling even a 5 gallon would work. For rubbermaids, hatchlings can live happily in shoebox sizes, adults can live in those large under the bed fitting wrapping paper rubbermaids. They are long.

Tanks display nice for YOU. But what is good for you, is not necessarily good for the snake. Actually, 9 times out of 10, its bad. Just something to think about Brandon.
