i got a new snow corn...

Bought from a reptile shop in hamilton. The hot side is on average in the mid 70's F. Im concerned that it might be too cold for the guy. Im just using a 50w heat lamp.

my other concern is that he didnt eat this week.
his first week with us, he ate a F/T pinkie in a feeding box But not until we tried to take him out of the box. But this week he didnt eat the pinky at all. I think its either because he used to eat live pinkies or the box.

any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks in advance

Might want to warm up the hot side to the 80F range...

As for feeding... what I do is warm up the pinky to body temp and then I wiggle it in front of the snake. Usually the combination of smell, heat and movement makes my snakes lash out and munch down.

Good luck.

I agree with Chris. 70F on the hot side is a little too cold for a corn. The temperature there should be in the 80 - 85F range.

Personally, I keep mine at 85F.

Good luck in getting him to eat.

Congrats on the new corn - they are great snakes and snows are so pretty. You are right that the temp is too low. We keep hatchlings at about 82 degrees with a drop down to 78 at night and sometimes it gets up to 85 during the hotter days. A range in temperatures in the container is nice so they can choose where they want to be - we use a tube that runs the length of the container for their hide, so they can feel safe at all temperatures.

The low temp may be why he is not eating. It is also possible he is about to shed because some of them will stop feeding when they are shedding and it can be very hard to spot the blue eyes on snow corns. Try raising the temp, make sure he has secure hiding areas and try again in 3 days with a warmed up pinky.

good luck,

mary v.

Ya, try warming up the hot side, my temps are usually 80-85 hot side, and 70-77 cool side..

Only way I have found to get new hatchlings to eat is to keep them in a SMALL feeding container with a few ventilation holes and a warm f/t pinkie. The scent fills the whole container and the snake goes nuts striking and eventually will down the pinkie no problem. Also, do this at night and keep the container in a dark area (i.e a closet)

Best of luck getting the little guy to eat

Cheers, Kyle~

thanks for the tips guys.

i plan on buying a UTH at the reptile expo. I have 2 hides on on each side (old KD boxes LOL)

probably the temp.. hadnt considered the shedding possibility.

My corn would only eat in the evening when i got him. I think it's called "crepuscular" or something like that. After a while he started eating whenever he found the pinkie. Like Kyle said, try at night or evening when it's darker
