anyone ever keep a rabbit as other than petfood?

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a pet rabbit, and may know why mine is acting like she's drunk, staggering to the right and unable to stand up. Any help would be appreciated, but please refrain from saying feed it to something, this is a pet here after all.

If she seems to be leaning more or less to one side, chances are she might have an inner ear infection. when she walks is she going in circles in one direction? How old is he/she? Has her eating or drinking been off at all?

She cleaned up her hay monday, and most of her water bottle was empty too, but little yesterday and nothing last night, now this. The vet suggested inner ear over the phone, but I'm still going to take her in. At the very least I don't want her to suffer :(

I would also say inner ear infection of some type. I see this every so often at the rabbit farms (1000's of rabbits), and he usually gives these to me for free.

And yes, I do have a pet rabbit that is not snake food (don't ask, son saved it from it's intended fate)

Im sure she'll be fine, usally the meds that the vet gives you kicks in about 2 days after giving it to them. Try giving her her favortive treats for the moment so she doesnt get sick, a good idea at this point is iceberg lettuce because as you all know its mostly water, this will prevent dehydration.

Yes I have had pet rabbits and have a pet rabbit now. I would go with everyone and say an inner ear problem....or it could be neurological (sp??) to.....take it to the vet.

I have a male that was supposed to be burm food. My wife saw him first and we still have him. We named him Gizmo, he's kind of cool. I've never heard of what you are describing though. I agree you should take her to the vet. Good luck with her.

How can I say "oh well"? I'll tell you.

I did everything I could for her, and given how fast she got sick and died, even a vet wouldn't have had much time make a diagnosis and do anything about it. I felt bad and I still do, but I gave her a good life for a few months in an environment that was comfortable and not crowded with other rabbits. I don't know if you think I should I bawl like a baby and rip my hair out, but life DOES go on. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Maybe you should give some thought to the matter before telling someone who lost a pet that he treated it like a fly.

Sorry you lost your little bunny. Still deserves more than an oh well... thats like if [hypothetically] your significant other died after all medical treatment failed saying "oh well". You don't have to cry or rip your hair out, and life does go on, but still acknowledge that it is a life lost ;)

I had one as a pet that had to be put down. No more bunnies here except in the freezer :p
