View Full Version : How do you find ambition?
How do you find ambition, and make goals, and live life to the fullest? I have no drive, or goals, or desire to do anything with my life. I am almost 24, and am perfectly content with everything be "good enough". I never strive to make anything better, and I am too lazy to really care enough to make a change.
How do you find the drive to make you want more from life?

Personally.........find something about yourself or your surrounds that you absolutely HATE, then try and make it better or make it to where you like it.
If you are perfectly content then why do you need more? That's ambition right there.
if you are happy, but other people think you need ambition, then that's their issue.

content is a bad thing. I settle for things that are good enough. People should always strive for more and better. It gives them a reason to wake up in the morning. I dunno. Im just tired of being happy with the fact that things are good enough. I know they can be better, but im too lazy to try and make a difference. I hate it.
I'd rather my life be peaceful, laid back and happy than constantly worrying I am not doing good enough. *shrug* I dunno...I just don't give a flying s**t about what society thinks is "good enough" or if I am "striving enough" If I am happy, and feel I have done the best I can, and my life is going well....then I am happy with the way things are.

I would concur with that. There has never been a time in my life I wasn’t trying to improve something. Not everyone has the same ambitions. If you are truly happy as you are, seems you have reached your goals. I have never been unhappy, but always forced on improvement. You like reptiles or you wouldn’t be here. Try something with them. Work on a breeding project. Perhaps if you accomplish that, it will spark an interest to try more things. Good luck!
Personally, I don't believe you that you don't have those,"drive" qualitys...To even be on this forum concludes that you must be passionate about something, snakes for instance. So cheer up and get on with it.

I think I kinda know what you're feeling. I was there before, too. Out of university, working, happy, comfortable, and BORED!
So I changed everything. My job, my country, my life, basically. Its amazing what you learn about yourself when you don't have anybody to lean on, no freinds, no fam, just yourself...

I'm ALWAYS trying to improve something in my life, wether it be my career, education, habits, or physically. It seems like the need for improvement is never ending, but, it makes me happy, because I always have something to strive for. :)
I mean, in October of 2002 I moved to a new city, which meant an entirely new life. New friends, new boyfriend, new job, etc. It was really refreshing for me.

this is basically what I am going through,...minus the happy part. I am just going through the motions. day after day. No challenges anymore. And I am just bored, and content with life. And it sucks. Content is pitiful. It means things are just good enough. And I want things to be better, but I dont want to put in any effort to make it happen.

thats gonna be a little hard to accomplish if you dont want to get up and do sommin..Nothing is just gonna come fly through the window and make everythin better, you just gotta go and do whatever you want. Go and try to do the one thing you dreamed about when you were younger. just a thought.

Sounds like you may be suffering from a form of depression.
Perhaps you should see counselor for advice or treatment.
Good luck---I hope things turn up for you:)
I hate to say it...but I wanna stop doing a lot of stuff but Im only 16 and the thing that drives me...is one day I want to be able to move and and be able to support me...and my family...and quit living off my dad. Money is the biggest drive I have...
It doesn't sound like your content, it sounds like you're unhappy with alot of stuff. Just my own opinion here, but up until now you've always had a goal: finishing high school, then college, then finding a job to support yourself, hopefully doing something you enjoy., now you are without a goal. Start by making a list of what you would like to change, choose one thing and decide how you are going to do it, then work at it piece by piece. This will give you a new focus, and if you do it one thing at a time, it won't seem overwhelming. Sometimes putting things in writing has a way of making it real, more than just a thought. If your job isn't fulfilling, use your spare time to look into things that you do enjoy, (reptiles perhaps :-), sports, traveling, movies, etc, etc, everyone is different. Often this will lead to making connections with other people with the same interests and sometimes even employment doing something you really enjoy. It will take discipline and an occasional nudge from friend, spouse, etc but unless you take the steps, nothing will change on its own. Hope things work out for you. Take care.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Contentness is what people strive for in life, not always wanting bigger and better, but to be happy with what you have and where you are. Many people will never accomplish that. If you are -truly- content with things, then thats all thats important. However, if you were truly content with things I don't think you would be making this post...

ambition comes from finding something you want to achieve. i would make a list of goals about where you want to be in 5 and 10 years. don't make them unattainable. Perhaps make some easier then others. Make some short term, and others long term. For me, I want to own a cottage, a house, have a couple children, become an experienced and respected teacher, travel each summer and have a great relationship with my wife (not married quite yet...that's a long term thing!). So, for me my ambition comes with achieving these goals.
good luck...

I'm kinda the same way i'm content in my lifestyle. I don't like too much change. I like having a basic routine I always have and will probly always be that way. I get along with almost everyone i meet and am a very laidback person. I do have 2 goals though and that is to move out of my boyfriends moms basement into our own house. The 2nd to have a basement big enough to store all the herps i want in it. I have no other desires or goals. Try to pick something attainable then try for it. Find something that pulls at your heart or your head and go from there. If it wasn't for reptiles i probly wouldn't even have goals.

I found 'ambition' right between 'ambiguous' and 'ambivalence' in the dictionary
