How do you feel about snake skins or monitor skins?
The argument against them is 1. the wild population is often depleted usually they are not farmed only hunted except in the case of gators and maybe a few others some hunters over hunt 2. its just wrong leave them alone 3. some hunters only use the skin and waste the rest
The argument for is 1.many of these people have no money no options for imployment they have familys to feed and there is no welfare like in N/A either you make money or catch food or you dont eat the skin trade happens to be one of the few ways to make money
2. some hunters skin the animal and use the meat and bone and sell the the teeth
3. in many area's the animals are so plentiful they are pests and often are found in peoples home and they utterly destroy other species because they are doing so well
What are your thoughts where do you stand

I don't think resopnsible hunting of any species is wrong, monies gathered from licenses excetera can be used to help populations directly. That said, I think in many instances reptiles and habitats are abused in areas that allow unregulated collecting or in many cases poaching and that little or no monies are returned for the improvement of the species or habitat
The day is over for the skin/fur industry...any continuation would be uncalled for due to the alternatives available
I wouldn't use or wear anything made from reptile skins. I don't have a problem with it as long as they are farmed for this purpose.

Wrong More niles are killed for skins then niles are imported for the pet trade somewhere in the 100 000's are skinned

I am a vegan (don't worry, I don't preach to people!), so I am 100% against skins, furs, anything of that sort. Did you know that sometimes animals are skinned ALIVE from not being killed properly? That must be the most horrible experience ever. It makes me want to cry. Even if they were killed humanely to get their skins..my god, DYING so that some ******* can make things out of YOUR skin? What if some higher/larger creature was doing that to HUMANS? I just don't think it's right. Anyway, that's my opinion.

I grew up with hunters in my family, I've been around that stuff all of my life. I still think it is wrong. I think killing any animal is wrong. We are in a point in life where we do not need meat or skin to survive, so it is unneccesary slaugtering. Hundreds of years ago when we did not have the 1. intelligence, 2. products, and 3. ability to live a meat-free lifestyle, I could understand. I don't really care about the way you kill something..it's the fact that you killed something at all. You took a life. Just because you think a lizard, a snake, a cow, or a deer is a lower being than humans doesn't make it right to kill it. I don't want to start a debate, these are just my opinions. I don't want to start any arguing or anything, but I think we're all adults here..well, not all adults, but I think we can communicate and get our opinions across without a flame war, right? I just don't want to start a bunch of crap because of the way I believe.
Edit to say: I DO NOT hold it against you if you hunt or eat meat. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want. I don't have a problem with that. Do as you please, but don't expect me to be happy about it, you know? We all have our seperate beliefs.

kristina WE may be at that Point But you must REALIZE this These poor people are not in africa or india as i said they have NO option this isnt North america where you can get welfare and you can still have a t.v. this is We have No Food No choice but to kill to live in north america its different But there its worse then it was here 150 years ago. They have no other choice and very little education. they need to kill to live and will untill someone helps them and It has to be us government grants NEVER get to the people and thats the truth

I wasn't aware that we were talking about Africa? You said hunters, I assumed you were talking about hunters..as in deer hunters and the like. I understand that in some of the poorer countries, they need to eat meat to survive. I have NO problem with that. I say survive at all costs! If I were starving, I would eat meat. No doubt.

that's a toughie. my first thought was to say that i would be in favour of banning all skins, however, what do you think leather is? as in your running shoes, wallets, lining in your car, and a ton of other examples. i personally will not buy skins for aesthetic reasons...that much i am confident saying.

Thats where most of the skins come from africa , india , indo
My main problem is with people who say Ban all skins Never let them hunt. (not you this is Just in general) That do this while they sit on there nice chair at there fancy computer while these people. are dieing from hunger they have never been in this situation ever and they say Thats wrong dont let them Do that Its basicly Giving them the death sentence we live in a VERY different World then these people
Again I Know what you said in your last post I was just throwing out some food for thought for people
I have visited a couple of snake/crocodile farms in Thailand, and the skins are from animals which are slaughtered for food/medicine. Personally, I would like say that all skins should be banned, but hey, it is the livelihood of people in other countries.

I will not support the skin and fur industries in any way. There are other ways to make a living IMO. Even with little or no education.

Here's my (as usual) controversial opinion!
Humans are the top of the food chain. Deal with it.
I eat meat every single day, I buy leather, I have no issues with fur. I choose not to wear reptile clothing, but I don't yell at people who do.

I was not yelling at anyone, Invictus..
Like I said, I don't preach to people. Everyone has their own lifestyle, and I accept that. But also accept that I have my own lifestyle and belief system.

I am against trophy hunting for the sake of putting an animal's body or head in your livingroom as an ornament.
However if an animal's life is taken to provide nourishment-- or as is neccessary in some cultures-- for their skins, then I have no problem with that.

I never implied that you were yelling at anyone, Kristina. I'm saying that I also don't yell at people whose opinions differ from mine.

We don't need higher/larger creatures doing something we already do. It is a proven fact that there are people out there that have killed humans just to make ornaments out of the skin. Ed Gein for example was a person who killed two woemn for the skin and he also grave robbed to make things such as lamp shades, bowls and belts out of human parts.
Only reptile skin I have, and ever will, is one I skinned myself with my father when I was around 6 or 7. We were biking and found garter snake roadkill. We used to go biking out in the country whenever he wasn't away and I would always bring a bag and take home all the dead animals and give them "proper burials" in my mom's gardens. This one didn't make it to the garden

If it's raised/farmed to be skinned, and eaten
why not.

i dont support the trade (reptile skin), but i do however hunt, fish, and buy leather, AND criticize those ignorant to kill herps on their land because they are snake or what not.

Many people kill snakes on there land because they have children one bite and your child has very little of a chance of survival
Now whats more important to you a family members life or a few snakes? I dont Support people killing ven's on their property 100% but i can see why its done
